fuzzy picture

The picture on all four of my televisions that are hooked up to directv get fuzzy. Some time the picture is worse that others. Some time the picture is perfectly clear.  It can do it when the the weather is cloudy or perfectly clear. There are no obstructions in front of my dish.   I

have had several visits from directv techs and they have checked their equipment and say everything is fine.

DVR/Receiver model numbers?

How are the DVR/Receivers connected to each TV?

Highly unusual that all four would go "fuzzy" at the same time.

The main receiver is an HR4-500. The other three are C61-700. They are connected via HDMI cables. Even tried replacing several cables but that didn't help. One thing I didn't mention in the original post is that it pixelates occasionally but not frequently.

Note that the C61 Mini Genie Clients are actually getting their video signals from the main HR54 Genie DVR. The fact that you're also sometimes seeing pixelation suggests a reception issue. What channel(s) are affected? Do you ever see any on-screen error message?

All channels are affected when it happens and no I never get a screen error message.

@stevewall I highly suggest checking your signal strength levels by clicking MENU, scrolling down to SETTINGS, pressing the right arrow until you see SATELLITE, select SATELLITE, choose VIEW SIGNAL STRENGTH, and see the strengths of the transponders on all satellites. One by one, take note of the range of strengths on each one and post back. You can scroll between satellites by clicking the select button on the + icon next to each satellite. In total, you should have taken note of 5 satellites. ( 101, 99ca, 99cb, 103ca, 103cb)

Those signal strengths are perfectly normal. It may be an issue regarding the HR54 itself since the clients get all information from the Genie. Have you checked the resolution of the TVs? The HR54 should have 1080i resolution with original format. Also, check the resolution of the TV itself (not directv receiver) and make sure it is 16:9 with no weird picture settings.

Does the "fuzzy" video affect both live TV and recordings?  If it's happening during a recording, does it repeat at the same spot if you rewind and replay that portion of the recording? This will help you determine if it's a satellite feed issue, or an HR54 video issue.

To give an update: when I was contacted by Laura from directv I tried resetting the receiver and I'm not sure what they did on their end the picture was pretty good.

Not perfect but pretty good. Over the last few days sometimes the picture is good and sometimes it is fuzzy. While I was watching today it was continually fuzzy again. Why can't I get a consistently good picture?

@stevewall no reason to waste your time with direct help, they usually give temporary solutions and/or off-topic recommendations that don’t go an inch closer to clarifying the actual proper solution. In this situation, since you somewhat fixed the issue with the red reset button but it came back, leads me to believe that the box may be defective since it has in-and-out functionality with the picture.
