getting 771 on only a few channels
12 to 15 of my 120+ channels give me a 771 error message, or say that something is wrong and I can watch the program in SD. When checking the signal strength on a couple of satellites half of the transponders are at 95 or 97, but the other half are 0 and then all of a sudden they are all 97. It doesn't matter if its a clear blue sky or full of rain or snow.

Likely a cabling issue as the even or odd transponders are not traveling through the coax correctly. Call DIRECTV for a service visit as it is not worth the trouble of figuring out the root cause of the issue yourself as it could very well be a defective receiver, bad power inserter, bad splitter, bad cabling, bad LNB, or bad/misaligned dish. Therefore, just call them. The number is in my greeting below.

If I call that number you listed will I be able to talk to a real person that can speak and understand English? I have spoken to one PERSON from Directv in my 15+ yrs with them on the phone. That was not the only phone call I've made in 15 yrs to Directv either.

Yes, the phone number in my greeting will send you to a real person after you confirm your account number and concern with the robot in the beginning. Confirm the account number, say service call or technician in the beginning, and say the service you are calling about is ‘DIRECTV.’

The error code 771, means that your dish isn’t communicating with the satellite. Let's test receiver connections.
