HD Pixelation after new dish install
I'm experiencing some pretty noticeable pixelation on all channels after a recent dish upgrade.
This is not pixelation where there are missing blocks on the screen, but pixelation like in compression - it's like looking at a really blurry compressed jpeg image).
I've had HD for years and had an older "giant" HD dish, I assume the first one they made. It finally died and they sent a tech out to replace it with a new slimeline model.
Since then I've noticed the HD quality is just not as good, and most channels are pixelated, muddy, dirty looking.
I have an older HR20 DVR and a brand new HR24 DVR and both look equally aweful.
The HR20 is on a 4 year old Sony Bravia LCD and the HR24 is on a brand new Samsung 8000 series plasma. Both look equally bad. I don't have whole home DVR and there are multiple lines coming into my house from the dish.
Just wondering if there's anything that can be done about this and what could have changed between the two dishes?
Thanks!

Weird. there should be no difference between the two dishes. can you post a picture of the problem. also please post your signal readings
You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength". Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners. If you have a DVR it's important to check BOTH satellite tuners.
Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner on the new post you create, using the example below as a guide. (The example below is only an example and not a form that will appear in your post unless you "cut" and "paste" it.) A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

Here are the numbers from my Sony LCD on the HR20. Both tuners are almost the exact same results. Mostly all in the high 90's, some zeros or single digits, lots of NAs.
Hope this helps, Thanks!!

Pixelation is often a function of dish alignment, which is not your problem. As to the other picture degradation, in theory the problem you're having is impossible. The reason? The picture is sent from the satellite in digital form, all 1's and 0's. They either reach the receiver or they don't, there is no quality to the signals. This is why Peds48 started his first response with the word "Weird". I assume you've checked and know that you are in fact seeing a HD picture and not SD?

I'll take a picture to show you what I'm seeing. Not sure if I'm using the right term (pixelation) but it definitely looks like blocky, compressed and muddy - especially around text and channel dogs.
I have the receivers HD setting at 1080i - original format. Over the air signals for the same show don't have the issue (which is to be expected since they're not as compressed). Blu-rays look amazing so it's the the TVs, and I have both LCD and plasma technologies doing the same thing so it's not the TV type.
It's possible that it's just the compression of the signal and I'm just now noticing how bad it actually looks.

Might just be "normal" MPEG compression artifacts. Tune to Ch306, HDNet. They have the best 1080i HD video quality. See how that looks.

I assume you aren't using any of some TV's artificial enhancement like the 120 and 240 Hz systems? Many of those will muddy the borders.
