Hopelessly WRONG Aspect Ratio on HD channels?
Has anyone else noticed the horribly wrong aspect ratios on SciFi, History Channel and other recently added HD channels with DirecTV?
I have an HR20 HD-DVR and I've switched thru the FORMAT switch on the remote. The FORMAT button changes the image on the projector (as the pic has to re-sync with each press), but the AR remains the same. Neither 1080i nor 720p offer a correct AR.
The only way I've managed to get something remotely watchable is to knock down to 480p and "trick" the DVR into switching to Pan and Scan. This corrects the AR, but leaves the channel logo is stretched vertically.
The incorrect AR is most obvious on the History Channel. i've watched several episodes of "The Universe" and noticed each time they show a planet they appear as ovals, while things like planets are traditionally ROUND and spherical!
Anyone else noticing this?
I'd like to let the HR20 scale the picture (instead of the projector, which is 720p), as the HR20 does a much better job of eliminating the scaling artifacts.
