how do you hide HD (not SD) duplicate channels?

Today I decided to stop the HD package (to save $10/mo). My TiVo (series 2) doesn't do HD anyway and I rarely watch stuff not through the TiVo. Now I have a problem with my H21 HD receiver. I found the option to disable the SD duplicates but that is opposite of what I want. I want to hide the HD channels. The problem is that when I use the remote (or if TiVo emulates the remote) to turn to a specific channel, it tries to tune in the HD version, and says that I'm not subscribed to it. To get to the SD version, I have to do channel up and then channel down or vice versa to get to it. So that means TiVo isn't going to be able to turn to the channel, and I'm not going to be able to get to the SD channel without using the DirecTV remote and going through extra steps as well. I also set up a Custom guide on the receiver but that doesn't help either because while it works great if you are doing channel up/down, it doesn't help if you enter the number of the channel directly. I'm guessing I'll have to downgrade to a non-HD receiver unless there is another option.
