How The Iphone Will Change Movie And TV Viewing Forever

What, exactly, does the iPhone--a mobile phone/internet device/widescren iPod--have to do with indie filmmaking? Well, a lot. The movie download market must prepare for a great new phase as we look forward to more and more great devices capable of playing our content.

For independent content to survive and thrive, it must move to new delivery devices like Apple TV, iPod and now the iPhone. Support for these new devices will lead to growth in the audience for indie content. Many "mainstream" consumers will not view indie films at screenings, festivals or DVD. The films are too hard to find, often barried in video rental store shelves or playing in small art house theaters. This has been the case for the past few decades. iPhone 5 release date

minervajone,

IMHO, I tend to disagree that mobile devices will have any lasting effect on the movie industry. I, for one and I'm certain many others, do not wish to view a HD movie on a screen as small as an iPhone or iPod. Now, the current media player "frenzy" for devices like the Apple TV, Roku, Western Digital WDTV Live Media Hub, Boxee and others is a device market that will continue to grow because they allow full screen HDTV viewing. And of course, the demand for these devices is going to be impacted directly by all of the TV manufacturers that are more and more marketing "Smart TV's" that provide these same media options. The "content" availability will be determined by providers like Netflix, Amazon, Blockbuster and other emerging "streaming providers". None of these, in my opinion, will adversely affect the current satellite and cable TV providers.
