I had no idea that Direct TV allowed the user to add Apps to the Box!  I just downloaded 5 apps and all of them worked, including Hulu.  Just hit "Home" key, go to apps and start downloading.  Make sure you have sign-on and password ready.  The only pain is that you need to hit "Home" every time you want to use one of "Your Apps" and then click the app (Unlike featured Apps, these are not in the regular listing).  I wish the installer had told me about this 1 year ago.  This is great!

You can't download apps to a DTV receiver so you are most likely using the DTV streaming service.

Not sure I know the difference between direct tv receiver and direct tv streaming, but I can tell you I am definitely streaming over the internet supplied by Google.

DTV is a satellite delivery system that requires a dish and receivers to be installed to receive the service so you have the DTV streaming service that only needs broadband internet service and the app and a subscription to use it, there is a box that can be added for TVs that can't get the app.
