I am not able to record local channels with my receiver. The sound does not come thru clearly at all - you cannot even understand it

We record quite a few shows.  Recording from the satellite channels no problem but recording from our local channels NBC, CBS etc the sound and picture is so bad you cannot use it.  You can watch the local channels but cannot record them.  This started a few months ago as before this they were fine to record.  I have reset the receiver on numerous occasions but no improvement.  The other thin is on our DVR receiver the time still shows our Arizona time from when we wintered there.  All other receivers show Eastern time like it should.  Signal strength shows 98-99%.

Suggestions on how to fix.  Is it my receiver?

It is probably your local TV station. Are you by any chance using an AM21?

Surprised you get any local channels as the only way to change the time is to change your service address which will also change what locals you get and the only way to change the service address is with a move order and the first one is free but any other ones are $199 and both come with a 1 year contract.

@shannon02 I believe time can be changed by going to display and clock if I am not mistaken

you can change displayed time but not your direct time zone. Are you still seeing your "old" locals instead of the new ones? This might mean directv has never moved you to your new address.

Direct TV has 2 addresses for us - one in AZ and one in MI and we have been going to our place in AZ each winter for 12 years or so now.  Each time we change for the winter we call them and they change out address to home or winter place.  Has always been right each time and yes we have the Michigan local channels but it still shows AZ time and for some reason when we record NBC.CBS etc. (local channels)  we cannot watch the recording.  We can view the local channels with no problem just cannot record them and then view them....... bit of a pain.  However we can record the satellite channels with no problem and view them later.  I don't what an AM21 is.

AT&T changed the policy on moving receivers now they no longer change the service address without a move order so you will continue having Arizona time until you change it (or take it back to Arizona) with or without the $199 fee but you will still get the 1 year contract as to why you get your locals is unknown as locals are on spot beams aim at the cities they serve and once you get outside of that beam you lose them and supposedly all other locals.

Thank you for reaching out @soyfarmer.

Can you try resetting the receiver so that it can reset the information and try recording on a local station again. You can use our reset receiver guide for more information.
