Linksys Wireless Adapter cannot connect to the internet all of a sudden

I've had the Linksys Wireless Adapter (LWA hereafter) connected with no issues for quite some time. I previously had a NETGEAR N150 router hooked up. That router died on me and I upgraded to the N300 that has better range. Since it's installation, my LWA cannot access the internet or Directv Cinema to download movies/programs. I've contacted not only Directv Tech Support, but also Netgear (router manufacturer), and Comcast (my ISP). When running the network connection test. it says my IP Address as well as my Subnet Mask are okay, however, the DNS and Default Gateway fields are blank. I was told by Directv support that was my problem. I have since obtained that information, plugged the numbers into the proper fields, yet still cannot connect. My NAT settings are open, the Network is detected according to the Network Connection Test, only the Internet is not streaming to the LWA to allow me to access Directv Cinema. I am extremely frustrated that something that has worked issue free for so long, all of a sudden stops working. Directv tech support walked me through several different procedures only to conclude that the problem is on my end and that I should seek help here. We customers (or at least those of you that I'm asking for help, are clearly more tech savy than the Directv employees). None of my wireless devices have any issues connecting through the very same router. What am I doing wrong, and how can I get back online with Directv Cinema??

Your LWA is still looking for the old router.

Disconnect the wireless adapter from the DVR. Connect the adapter to your computer or router (see adapter manual) via a Ethernet cable. Check that the router has DHCP enabled (essential). On your computer using the software that came with the adapter configure the adapter to your router. Assure that the computer can connect to the Internet via the adapter.

When the adapter is configured to the router, move the adapter to the DVR and connect the Ethernet cable, then do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR. When it's all booted up, do thus: Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> restore defaults -> connect now. You should get a "connected to Internet" message. Allow 24 hours for the system to download then try downloading a concert from channel 1239 as a test.

You are absolutely ridiculous, and I mean that in the best way possible! Thank you. How you knew exactly what my problem was and how to fix it is beyond me, but I'm not going to ask stupid questions, especially when your assistance yielded the most favorable outcome. I did everything step by step, did the red button reset, and the restore defaults, but was initially given the same error message, I clicked "Test Again" and viola, CONNECTED!! AMAZING! I can't thank you enough, you seriously lifted a huge frustration off of my shoulders. I can't say I'm too surprised though, I've seen many of your responses to customer/member posts and their comments about how helpful you were, I was hoping you'd see my question and reply, and you did. Thanks again.

Ica465,

Yeah, user dcd is pretty darn good at this stuff ain't he??? Somehow, I think he missed his "calling" by working so many years in the construction industry when he could have been a TECHKNOWGUIDE all those years. Of course, since there's no paycheck for being a TECHKNOWGUIDE that would have made retirement a little difficult:0)

I am having the same trouble trying to get the DirecTV wireless adapter to connect. DTV tech support has been useless and I've been trying for three days to get the internet connected with no success. You mentioned the software that came with the adapter. I received no CD with software with this kit. It's the $80 kit I purchased from DTV. I need more detailed information about this. Would appreciate help because I'm both frustrated and ticked off right now. I cannot believe DTV has such poor customer service for setting up a wireless internet connection with THEIR equipment. I bought a Wii and it is very user friendly setting up for wireless.  If someone responds with help, please send me an email so I'll know to come and read your response.  My email is e_whitney@yahoo.com.  Thanks.

Posting your email address is poor policy in my view.  You are not having the same trouble as the original poster, you have a different Wireless adapter and that has it's own corrective actions.  Note that this is a user to user help forum so any hyperbole is basically a waste of ink, errr pixels.

Kindly begin your own fresh post and tell us if you have Whole Home DVR and whether you have a SWM system, if you have a wireless router, plus the model numbers of your receivers and DVR's.  We'll watch for your post.  Try to relax, setup is simple, there is likely something set wrong.

Question...I came across a Linksys etherfast cable/dsl router ( one port) in the box that I purchased years back that I never opened.  I presently have a desktop computer with att modem router that I run in one room.  Would this type of Linkysys router work for the tv connection to direct cinema???

ceecee,  We always encourage fresh new posts for different questions.  Look at the model number on the Linksys.  If it's a router it should have multiple Ethernet ports.  If it's a modem then only one.  And, if it's a wireless adapter it would have one.  Post your results in a fresh thread and someone will assist you.
