Lost 6 local channels suddenly - zip 28711
Suddenly, I get error code 771 for the following Directv Channels: 13 (ABC), 14,16,21,33,and 62 (CW). Reset receiver. All other channels are fine. Only really care about 13 (ABC/WLOS) and 62 (CW). No weather issues or anything else wrong with my setup. Thanks.

Most likely your dish needs to be aligned.

What DVR/Receiver model number?
What type of DirecTV satellite dish?

Thank you. Screen says receiver is H21/100. Do not know if that is a model number. It is an old receiver but works flawlessly on all channels except those few lower channels listed; channels above and below those are fine, and signal strength on transponders is high. It is an HD receiver but I do not receive HD signal because mountain blocks HD signal - too low in sky for the location. The dish is a small, older round one. I hope this is somewhat helpful. Many thanks for your speedy reply.

The fact that you don't receive the HD satellites (specifically 99 and 103ºW) is likely your problem. As DirecTV phases out standard definition service from the main 101ºW satellite they're moving channels to other satellites. If you don't receive those satellites then you'll see this message. Your old round 18" dish can't see the satellites that are beaming your local channels. You should have an installer verify you're ability to "see" the 99 and 103ºW satellites. They're very close in the sky to the main 101ºW satellite.

You are out of luck then as DTV is longer sending local channels on the 101 sat. and that is all the round dish gets. You need a SWM slimline dish but it appears you can't use it.

Thank you! re: You should have an installer verify you're ability to "see" the 99 and 103ºW satellites. They're very close in the sky to the main 101ºW satellite. Will try that as time permits and IF someone will do it. From what you have shared and our experience, it seems DTV is randomly dropping a few channels out of the blue, with no warning. DTV is overpriced and harder to deal with than the old days. Will probably have to work our way over to streaming, when the channel dropping picks up. Technology can be challenging living in the mountains, no matter which way we go. You have saved us a lot of time trying to get help from DTV. At least now we know with what we are dealing, and truly appreciate your kindnesses and shared wisdom. IF they will check 99 and 103 for us, we may have some time left. Do not know if raising our dish might even help... Thanks to you, we know where to begin. Most appreciated!

p.s. FWIW, almost all of our channels are OK, even local, except the few noted in our first post. Guess we can expect to be losing more channels, as time goes by...

There are smartphone apps that may be able to show you if you can get the 99/103 sat as well as dishpointer.com. DTV started dropping the MPEG2 channels in 2019 Covid and other things slowed it down, the 101 will continue sending the nationwide channels in MPEG4.

Well, it's not really "out of the blue". With your older equipment you should have been notified about FREE equipment replacement so that you could receive all of DirecTV's satellites. Once upon a time, the DirecTV satellites were scattered further across the sky, but that's no longer true. If you can receive 101ºW then odds are good that you can also receive 99 and 103ºW.

Thank you so much! Your assistance has been more than helpful. I was not notified or offered anything but that is history. Take care and thanks again.
