media share not loading all my files

i have a hr24/100 hd/dvr receiver with a wireless connection kit.  wireless is my only option since the router is upstairs in another room. receiver is downstairs.  when opening mediashare i am able to access my laptop and my network drive.  only some files are available from either the laptop or network drive.  the network drive has thousands of movie and music files on it but only a dozen music files and most of my movie files show up.  some of the music files from my laptop show up and others dont.  why wont all my files show up in the menu?  also when i play a song in mediashare then try and watch tv, the volume on the tv show is gone.  i have to restart the receiver to get the volume to work again.  i have been on this forum and tried all the little tips and tricks and have enabled media sharing for the receiver.  i have no problem with files showing up when i use another laptop .  what is going on with mediashare??
