Media Share setup for Windows XP
I'm trying to configure Media Share on my computer but the directions on the website apparently are for a different operating system. I have XP Service pack 3.

It's been some time since I configured an XP computer so use your imagination to fill any blanks. First, connect your HD DVR to your router. You can confirm it's connected by pressing and holding the remote's info button, then selecting more system info. Scroll down and confirm that Internet shows as connected.
Now on your computer, open Windows Media Player -> tools -> options -> library -> configure for sharing -> a window should open showing your DVR and there will be a spot to allow sharing. Following that, temporarily disable the firewall on your computer and do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR.
After the reset is complete, press menu and the "music etc" option should appear. Clicking on that should show your computer. On your computer, if you take a few MP3 music files and place them in the My Music folder that Windows creates by default, then selecting Music in the Mediashare menu on the DVR should play those songs.

dcd, I have found as a CSR that sometimes the hddvr will say it is connected but will not actually interact with the router. I have found the best and quickest test for internet connection is pressing the right arrow next to select to verify TV apps will load. It comes online as soon as the rec is properly connected to the internet, no 24 hour wait.

My problem was solved by simply updating to Windows Media Player 11, which made the process a snap.
