MediaShare doesn't make any sense!!
Okay, so this box I have is the HR23-700
It's got an MPEG-4 decoder built in yes? I mean, the HD streams via sat are now in MPEG-4 and not the old (like in the TiVO receivers) MPEG-2 but why can it not decode HD MPEG-4 with AAC audio?
It's just silly!
I've got a PS3 and I use the PS3 Media Server on Mac and PC ( http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/ ) to watch videos and funnily enough, the media server shows up in the MediaShare menu, and the PS3 Media Server detects the HR23-700 as a WD TV Live media renderer. I wouldn't even have discovered this except when I fired up my PS3 Media Server, I noticed a new device that it recognized.
Is there a patch planned to allow MPEG-4 playback via the network? Seems the box should easily be able to handle it with the proper software as it's got the guts to do it.
Any suggestions that don't require re-encoding all my video files to archaic MPEG-2 and TS/MP2 Audio format? Those are bandwidth hogs and the main reason I had to upgrade from my previous TiVO box.
