MediaShare not working with pictures

I have a Lacie mini Ethernet device attached to my network.  It's a Linux based, network attached storage device.  There is really nothing to configure on this device (it's nothing like a Windows Media pc).

My direcTv box (HR20) plays music files (mp3) from my Lacie without any problems, however I am having trouble displaying pictures.  It seems to be very sluggish when I "arrow" down my list of folders on my direcTV box (I will push the arrow down key and sometimes it will take 10 seconds or longer before it responds).  Some pictures will dispay, but most folders that I pick will not play at all (I get either "there are no playable files in this folder" error, or I get "unable to access media").  The file size of the pictures on the disk seems to be about the same size (around 500K or so).

What could be causing this?  Is there a limit to the picture size (all of my pics are jpg format) that DirecTV can read??  Is there a limit to the picture resolution?  Maybe the newer pictures (which seems to be the case - anything newer than 2002) are a higher resolution and not supported by DirecTV?

This Media Share feature is nice, but seems to be quirky.  Has anyone else had these issues?
