menus shrink on non hd channels

i'm not sure if i accidentally bumped something on my remote or what.  for some reason, when i switch to a non-hd channel now, not only does the picture resize itself but the directv menu ALSO shrinks, which is annoying because browing through the menus is miserable until i switch back to a hd channel. then it snaps back to full size.   previously i could go to any channel and the menu aspect would never change.  what did i do?

there should be a button on the TV's remote control named "PIC SIZE" FORMAT" WIDE" "ZOOM" set the TV to "NORMAL" or "16x9"

i have the format button on my remote, it lets me switch ratios for the shows i'm watching (i.e 1080 resolution and original format) , i don't see an option for setting the tv to normal or 16*9.  setting the resolution for the channel i'm watching doesn't seem to have any effect on the menus, as they are still compressed until i change to a hd channel.

you need to use the remote that came with your TV, NOT the direcTV remote.  the TV is not able to switch to different resolutions but can be set for different scan ratios

See the owner's manual for your TV here ....

http://www.insigniaproducts.com/cms/documents/NS-32L_37L_42L550A11_09-1120_MAN_V2_English_Final%20Print.pdf

Try pressing the ZOOM button (bottom right side of TV remote).  See also page 22 of the manual for instructions on changing the TV's aspect ratio settings.
