MLB Recordings are auto deleted as soon as the live broadcast is over.

This is my second inquiry to this problem.  I am a subscriber to the MLB Extra Innings package.  I record my favorite team so that I can watch it later.  Just recently, every recording deletes as soon as the time block for that game is over.  I can watch it live.  I can also watch it while it is recording if I tune in late.  But as soon as the time block is over, the recording deletes itself, and my game stops wherever I am in the recording at the time the live feed ends.  This has never happened before until now.  I have been recording MLB Extra Innings games for years.  I am familiar with the MLB blackout restrictions.  I have done my research.  Since all these games that I record are Out-of-Market games, these games have no blackout restrictions in my area.

But when I go the the Recording Manager/Recording History is says "GameSearch was performed for the.....@ Rangers (Rangers Broadcast) on channel 739 as this program was not authorized due to blackout restrictions in your area.  This episode was partially recorded because the channel became unavailable. (6)

This message is full of errors.  First, there are no blackout restrictions in my area.  Secondly, the episode was fully recorded, not partially.  Thirdly,  channel did not become unavailable.  It was available for the whole game.  I was watching it.  But when the live broadcast block was over, the program deleted itself.  This is not a MLB problem.  It is a Directv issue as I have carefully read the MLB blackout restrictions.  No where does it say that recordings are deleted after the broadcast is over.  If I can watch the game live, then obviously the game is not blacked out.

When I inquired the first time, Directv wanted to make sure there wasn't any weather issues and that I have plenty of recording space.  No weather issues, I have plenty of space in my hard drive to record and prioritize games.  Then they said I need to review the MLB privacy policy....ha ha ha.  The privacy policy has nothing to do with this issue.   If I can't record the game, and watch it when I want, then there is no need to pay Directv for this service.  I am very frustrated that this is happening, and so far there has been only weak responses from Directv.  I have been with them for decades and I prefer their service over streaming for many reasons.  But....if every time I come home to watch my favorite team and the recording is deleted, why bother with Directv?  I can watch it on my ipad I guess.  Bummer.

Several calls to Directv led to this.  It’s MLB, check your recording option, previous recordings.  You will see the deleted and it says “due to MLB blackout rules”.  It then quit for a week and now deleted this weekend.  Thinking it is “Rockies” changing rules.   This is just not right.  I told Directv to get MLB to fix.  They say it’s mlb.  I don’t care, I pay Directv not M,B.  GET THIS FIXED OR REFUND MY ENTIRE SEASON!

DTV collects that money and sends it to MLB, so yes you are paying MLB.

This has recently been a huge issue for us as well.  We have subscribed to MLB for years in order to watch the STL Cardinals games - we live on the West Coast.  Over the last few weeks, games that have been recorded have been automatically deleted without the ability to watch them after they were recorded.  We pay for MLB and expect to get what we pay for.  DIRECTV needs to address/fix this issue or refund our money.  Because this was a recent change, my question for DIRECTV is what happened?  Why the sudden change?  Why weren't customers notified?  Answers would be very much appreciated.

There has been no response from anyone in a week on this post. Has anyone seen an improvement?  I have not tried it since I posted. The last game I tried to tape that didn’t work, I was able to see on my laptop. Thanks

AFAIK everyone is now recording the 600 RSN channels.

Just asking so don’t kill me but if I live outside of the local regional sports network area (which is the reason I sign up for MLB) aren’t those stations not available?  If I could watch on the RSN I wouldn’t have a reason for the MLB package. Thanks for the help.

I found it's usually a crapshoot which games appear and which are blacked out. Some of those games I can watch, but the Angels feed from Anaheim on the 600 channel doesn't work for me. Also, I attempted to get rid of MLB Extra Innings and just subscribe to the Angels feed, but we didn't always get the games for whatever reason. I can't remember what happened, but it didn't work well and we went back to MLB EI.

AFAIK the RSN channels become available to MLB users at game time.

The EXACT same thing happens when my husband watches Cardinals on the MLB Extra Innings with DirecTV. What he does now is record the Cardinals’ broadcast AND the opposing team. When the Cardinals game disappears, he goes to the other broadcast, and luckily and for reasons unknown to us, that game doesn’t “self delete”.

We are very angry about this, and can’t believe DirecTV doesn’t do more to fix it. I’ve spent hours on the phone with them. At first they act surprised and suggest our Genie should be replaced. We did that. Still losing games. Then they say a few channels are affected, but don’t offer any advice. Then they say it’s the broadcaster. What?! Then they act like it’s perfectly fine and we should watch the games live if we want to watch a game. Gaslighting me every time I call with this issue.

This is way bigger than a few random customers.
