New Directv menu functionality is a disaster
The recent update to Satellite Directv Service that changed the user access and menu functionality is terrible. The effort, it appears, seems to be trying to make Directv user menu access look and function like an online streaming service. The effort has failed. Not only is it not streaming when tied to a satellite, it is mainly live TV, Now instead of direct access to things like recorded shows, series recording, managing series recordings and other functions, you now have to go through multiple layers of menus instead of one "click" as in the past. If I wanted to tap out a tune in clicks on the remote, I would rather just go to the piano. That is not what I want to do on the Directv Remote. I, like many others, want the old menu functionality back. The truth is the Directv is now a marginally useful way to watch TV. It's main attribute and value has been quick access to channels and easy show and series recording and recordings management. Now much of that functionality has been compromised. Who thought this was a good idea?

Why won't my recorded shows play with the new menu? I can find them, although it wasn't easy, but when I try to play them, it takes me back to the main menu.

agree, the new menu is horrible. old one was just fine and so much easier to navigate. now it is too hard to find the recording you want or to easily get to the full list to select the program you actually want to watch rather than what directv thinks you should want to watch

The new Direct TV menu is awful. You have to go through multiple steps to get to functions you used to be able to get to in one step. Who makes these dumb decisions?
I use my Sony smart tv remote in order to use all its capabilities. There is no list button on there. I don’t even know if we a Direct Tv remote anymore

Congratulations Directv. You’ve gone too far. You’re going to make more people upset than you have ever before. Who is going to take responsibility for this debacle. Please switch it back before you lose most of your customers. Here’s a positive note for you, Why don’t you ask your customers what they like before you just up and change things.

Well said. We can’t navigate this hot mess. Is Directv EVEN LISTENING?

Unplug the tower and press the reset button for 30 seconds. When everything comes back up, it will reset to the old menu. It worked for mine. That's what tech support had me do.

AFAIK it will update to the new version eventually, unless DTV has paused the updates.

Well, without any notice, all of my boxes received the infamous update and after rebooting, the new interface was up. I tried to work with it, as everyone has detailed above. I called DirecTV technical support and they had no idea what I was talking about. I actually switched to another department and the agent hooked into my cell phone camera so he could see what our issue is with the “list”. He could not fix the problem but offered to reduce my monthly cost for a year. I solved the problem by myself. Dish Network will be here in a few days to install their system that works and can record 16 shows at once and properly catalog them in organized folders. When I travel for an extended period of time I can “suspend” my account and pay a small holding fee. I am excited about dumping DTV which I have had for over 15 years. They worked very hard to engineer my departure.

DTV is trying to buy Dish, their offer was rejected so far. You can suspend your DTV account also.

I understand that DTV has been trying to acquire/merge with Dish. At least I will have the more consumer friendly interface if/when it happens.
