New “opt-in” A&E network channels

I’m not totally against opt-in, it makes sense except the fact that this is not what people expected or paid for. If you pay for it and it is listed, you get it!  Sort of like you buy a house.  In the agreement you are given the range and refrigerator.  You move in and they’ve been removed.  You have legal recourse.  In fact it could be considered breach and other factors.   Seems this is apropos…. Also the fact that no compensation is offered for the removal?

My real question, how do you know who’s watching what?  Especially a home that isn’t connected to the net to receive the data?  The satellite doesn’t have 2 way info on its own!

I wish we could just pay for what we watch.  Let’s say you have a 50 channel plan, a 75, 100, 150… and up you go.  Not pay by distributor and bundled channels.  I won’t buy the Discovery+ OTT channel package because I can’t justify paying for all of it when I watch 2 of the channels…

I applaud you for trying diff things but how about telling people and compensating them?

Do we now have to opt in for my favorite A+E channels??? Why I already pay for these and have always had them??? I saw a senator on twitter saying your fees were going way up to keep access to History Channel and suggesting we switch to Dish. I would not be a happy customer if this is true. Please clarify what’s going on with History, Lifetime and all of my favorite A&E network programming.

Can you please explain the A& E Opt In and why it’s happening? Why would I have to pay more for what was already in my package ?

We're happy to help with your A&E questions, @MWW!

Effective 12/8/2021 some customers with low to no viewership of the A&E channels will have it removed from their Select or Entertainment DIRECTV base package. High-viewership and unconnected customers will maintain access to A&E channels.

While A&E channels will no longer be available in certain packages for new customers or existing customers, customers will have the option to keep the A&E channels.

Existing customers may visit CHANNEL OPT-IN (https://direc.tv/3EVZuLU) and request to keep A&E in their channel lineup at no additional cost.

We hope this helps.

DTV sent out postcards and emails before the change date.

While you may not be connected to the internet millions are.

Thanks all.  Especially Kaitlyn from Direct.

I had never recv'd an email, smail mail or text in regard to this matter.

I only knew because I saw it in a newspaper article.

I still would like to know how does Directv know without a internet connection to get the backup info?

Thanks

The link takes me to AT&T's website.  I have a DirecTV account and my log on information doesn't work for the AT&T website.  There's not even an option to create an AT&T account.

I have an odd situation because my DirecTV service is included in my rent through my apartment complex.

I'm not sure why the channels were removed.  Supposedly, they were turned off for people who don't use the channels.  I watch probably 80% of my television viewing watching A&E.

I also never received notification and only found out today when I tried to watch A&E and it was no longer working.
