No close captioning on TCM standard definition (as of ~April 30, 2022)
As of ~April 30, 2022, I am not receiving close captioning on TCM (channel 256) standard definition on either of my receivers. [I am receiving close captioning on high definition TCM and all other channels that I have checked, both HD and SD.]
I have made several phone calls to technical support customer service, but the personnel don't seem to understand my description of the problem or they don't care.
As I long time DirecTV customer paying a hefty bill each month, I expect better service. Since the problem of no close captioning on TCM standard definition exists on both of my receivers and seemed to occur about the same time, I assume that the problem is at DirecTV end. I have tried resetting the receivers, etc. If I need two replacement receivers, please advise.
Why can't this problem be resolved quickly instead of giving me the run around.

@sskeyw what is the model of your two receivers? If they are SD receivers then they must be replaced with HD receivers as SD MPEG/2 content is being phased out by DIRECTV. In fact, they have already removed a dozen channels. If you haven’t upgraded already, please do. Call them up and ask for the free HD upgrade. (Their phone number is in my greeting below.)
Depending on if you have the Genie receiver, they will probably upgrade you to two Genie mini clients. If you don’t currently have a Genie and don’t want to change out your current high-def receiver, ask for a Genie receiver to replace one of the SD receivers and an H24 or H25, depending on stock. This way, you don’t need to replace your current HD receiver for a Genie. It is a simple as swapping the SD receiver for an HD receiver. The satellite dish may need to be upgraded if 1.) It is an older 18 inch or 18x20 dish incapable of receiving the high def satellites or 2.) It is a non-SWM system.

DTV has no control over CC as it is the broadcaster that adds it to their programs and since you are still getting it on the HD channel seems like TCM is having a problem.

Reply to detuch254,
My current receivers are H24-700 (HD) and D12-100 (SD). Neither of the receivers has CC on TCM SD signal - the H24-700 has CC on TCM HD. Both receivers have CC on all other SD channels.
I have no idea what a Genie receiver is?
I have been reluctant to exchange my SD receiver for an HD model, as the newer HD receivers seem to have only HDMI outputs, incompatible with my older TV and equipment.
I wish DirecTV had employees who know as much about their system as you apparently do.

@sskeyw thanks for taking the time to provide the receiver models. Yes, that D12-100 will need to be replaced very soon because DIRECTV will be shutting down all older SD feeds. Believe it or not, those SD feeds have been active since the start of DIRECTV in 1994. It's about time they should be retired and HD will take over the realm of DIRECTV, making older SD-only receivers like your D12 useless.
Don't worry about your older TV and equipment being incompatible with the new receiver, as it too has AV/Component connections similar to the D12.
From what you have stated, a Genie may not be necessary as of right now if you don't plan to use a DVR. Call DIRECTV (number in my greeting below) and ask for the free HD upgrade to replace the D12 with an H24 or H25, depending on stock. Both receivers support your older TV as they have AV/component outputs. If they claim that the H24/H25 is out of stock, you may need to upgrade to the Genie receiver. But, before I assume that, give them a call and see what they can do. Again, be sure to say "free HD upgrade" for your D12 receiver and that it should be replaced with an H24/H25 high definition receiver.

Reply to @detuch24,
I just spent over 30 minutes trying to get my DT12-100 receiver swapped for a H25 receiver. Since a service technician has told me that I need to do this, I was not expecting all of the "hoops" that I encountered. It seems that they folks at DirecTV aren't very customer focused.
For example, yesterday, when I described my problem with CC on TCM, the agent tried to sell me DirecTV stream. Today, the agent I talked to today said I would be charged a fee for 3 months for the equipment "upgrade" - I explained that I didn't want to upgrade - DirecTV was requiring that I change receivers.

@sskeyw that's ridiculous that customer support is giving you a hard time for such a simple task of ordering an H25 receiver to swap the D12. First off, there is no such thing as a three month fee for an equipment upgrade. It is called "free HD upgrade" for a reason, to replace old and obsolete SD receivers with HD receivers that will last for most of the foreseeable future.
A Genie receiver is the newest up-to-date receiver that allows the recording of five shows at once, wireless receivers that work without a coaxial cable to each room, on-demand and DVR capability, Whole-Home DVR (where each receiver in the house can watch the recorded content on the Genie), and the newest user interface.
