No On-Demand channels
We had directv installed on Sept 19. We have two standard DVR's, model R15-300 and R22-100, and an HD DVR, model H24-100 and we have the Choice-Ultimate package. We have never been able to see the on-demand channels on either of the standard DVR's. The HD DVR is fine, all of the on-demand channels.
Any ideas on what may be the problem?
Thanks!

sure. SD DVR's don't have any network capabilities, therefore they cannot participate on the On Demand services. However, you have and "odd ball" SD DVR. the R22 when use in conjunction with other HD equipment like you HR24, the R22 becomes an HR22. basically it becomes an HDDVR. since you don't have WHDVR service, you would need to conenc the R22 to the internet. how is your HDDVR connected to the internet?

I have this DECA broadband adaptor that they installed, I guess. When the installer set it up, i asked what the DECA broadband adaptor was for and he said so that Directv can communicate with all of the DVR's. How would I connect the R22 to the internet?
So why would they not mention that I would not have on-demand channels with my DVR's? I have to buy HD DVR's to get on-demand?

what is the model of this DECA adapter? I am assuming that this is the Wireless DECA right? because you cannot have a SWM set up because those R15 are not SWM compatible.
So why would they not mention that I would not have on-demand channels with my DVR's?.don't know. but this is not a technical question. so we leave it at that.
I have to buy HD DVR's to get on-demand?you don't have to buy, but yes. you would have to lease them from DirecTV, since only HDDVR's can get on demand.
you can get the R22 connected to the interment by running an ethernet cable from the R22's ethernet port, to where your router is located. or you can get the same wireless adapter (if that is what i think you have) for the R22.

I have a wired adapter, model DECABB1MR0-01. I asked the installer why I wouldn't want a wireless adapter and he had a reason(I don't recall exactly what the reason was), but he did not seem to want to use a wireless one. And I thought he mentioned something about the R15 nor being compatible with SWIM, but put some cable on it saying that would make it compatible.
So you need an adapter for each SD DVR/HD DVR?
Thanks for your help.

wow. the plot thickens.....
we need to go back to basics.
how many cables are coming off your dish?
where those cables goes to?
to what they connect to?
any markings models numbers?
how many cables connect to the back of the R22? and how many to your HDDVR?
what model is your HDDVR?
Does the R22 have anything connecting to the satellite cable other than the coax?

First of all, I did not read the model number correctly on one of the SD DVR's, instead of an R15-300, it is a R16-300. Sorry about that. Not sure if that makes a difference. I re-checked the other models, and what I gave you is correct. When I press the dash button on the HDDVR, it says "SWiM Connected",
In answer to your questions:
how many cables are coming off your dish?
One cable, and what looks like a ground wire.
where those cables goes to?
The cable connects to a DIRECTV splitter, MSPLIT4R-01 2-2150 MHz
to what they connect to?
my old CATV cables come out of the splitter going to the various rooms. He did put on new tips.
any markings models numbers?
on the cables? The old CATV ones are painted over, so can't see markings on those. The one coming out of the dish to the splitter have 'Directv RG-6 75 ohm high performance 3 GHZ digital CATV cable'.
how many cables connect to the back of the R22? and how many to your HDDVR?
One coax cable on the R22 in the Satellite 1(SWM-2)
One coax cable on the HDDVR in the Satellite 1(SWM-2)
what model is your HDDVR?
H24-100
Does the R22 have anything connecting to the satellite cable other than the coax?
No.
One more thing. The installer did connect a band stop filter, model BSFR1-01 on the R16 because he said that the R16 was not compatible with SWM(or something like that). Then he may have had the Band Stop Filter on the R22 at some point, but I am not sure. I know he was having a lot of connection and/or signal problems with the R22. I don't know if he had the filter on or not, but he left it laying next to the DVR. He had similar issues with the HDDVR, but he got those resolved quicker than the R22 problems.
Thanks for your help.

thanks for that info. in order to connect that R22 to the internet, you need a receiver DECA, as pictured below. this connect to the R22 Satellite 1(SWM-2) port. then the satellite coax connect to the receiver DECA. then connect the receiver DECA with an ethernet jumper to the ethernet port of the R22. You can try calling DirecTV and see if they can send you one free or charge, or you can try places like solid signal.com or eBay

it is a R16-300. Sorry about that. Not sure if that makes a difference.
Yes, it makes a huge difference. Now, instead of having a "dukes mixture" installation, you have a perfectly legitimate installation that is simply missing the DECA adapter and Ethernet jumper as outlined by Peds48.
For your info, the R15 will not work with a SWM system, but a R16 will. The band stop filter should be used with the R16 but not the R22. The R16 will never have the on demand channels, but the R22 will when you get the DECA installed. Disconnect AC power from the R22, put the DECA in place, then reconnect AC power.
