On Demand HD Movies - Input signal not compatible

Tonight I tried to order an on-demand 1080p movie but was unable to view it due to an incompatible signal.  This is the first time I've encountered this error message in the 1 year I've had DirecTV, and I've been able to view several on-demand 1080p movies during that time.

DTV tech support diagnosed it as an issue with my TV and ran me through the setup to change the resolution to 720p, which worked.  I mentioned to her that I'd never had a problem viewing their 1080p movies before.  The only thing that has changed is that I moved to a new house in the past two months and am now using a dish that already existed at the new location.  She said the reason I could view 1080p before but not now is because (1) DirecTV has recently upgraded their system/signal and (2) my TV can't handle it.

I've seen the other posts about 1080p/24 vs. 1080p/60, which date back a few years.  But I'm curious, did DTV really change something in their system recently?  Does the different dish or anything else about moving play a role?

I'm not aware of any changes in the 1080p PPV movies.

Is your HD DVR connected to your HDTV using HDMI cable?  Unchecking the 1080p box in the HD DVR's HDTV Setup Menu will fix this problem.

I believe there may be a few PPV programs that have a different level of HDCP.  However, I wouldn't switch to 720p, I would set the HD DVR resolution to 1080i and leave 1080p unchecked.  If it plays that way then the quality will be close to or equal to the 1080p setting.  If it won't play that way then you may have a HDCP issue with your TV for that particular program.

If you'll post the Title and where you recorded it from, I'll give it a try.

Yes, I'm using HDMI.

The movie was Horrible Bosses, watch instantly from DTV Cinema.

That movie is not available for "watch instantly" as of Mon 11 AM.  Under the Cinema button it's available for download only.  If it was available when you tried to watch it, it may have been in the process of coming off the "watch instantly" queue.  Currently it has to be downloaded from the Cinema (on demand) server.  I downloaded and watched a portion of it this morning and it played back just fine with my HR24 set to 1080i as I recommended in post #3.  You can do the same and if you ignore the "do you want to buy" pop up you can watch a few minutes without charge to test your system.
