Only able to watch HD content through DIRECTV2PC
For some reason I can only watch HD content. That does not seem correct. When I try to play SD I get the error "Directv2pc cannot play the video content because your monitor does not support the playback of protected content." Seems like I would get that message if I was trying to watch HD but....
Any ideas?
This computer is on a fresh install of Win 7 Home - 64 Bit
ASUS P5Q Pro (MB)
Quad Core - E6600 (CPU)
4 GB RAM
Radeon HD 6870 (Video)
(2) SSD OCZ drives [RAID 0]
ASUS 246H Monitor hooked up through HDMI Cable.

I must tell you that I record virtually no SD content so had never experienced this situation. In response to your post I recorded a portion of "Judge Judy" in SD and sure enough I got the same error message as you did. In addition, all of the HD recordings on my DVR play perfectly just the same as you. I would say you have no problem with your setup but that there is an inherent weakness of some kind in the software. I'll see what I can find out, if anything, and post back.
Note that I'd bet that this error would not occur if you were feeding your monitor with other than a HDMI cable as that is the only cable type capable of monitoring HDCP (copy protection) compliance.

Weird isn't it. You would think that the SD would not be an issue. I would more than likely watch mostly HD as well but since I just had it installed and the kids had recorded a few things I clicked on those to start with. Actually I tried to watch the refer a friend video first.
Figured I would post on here since a search didn't return anything and someone else will have a issue with this soon and it could be fixed before someone gets mad or pulls hair out. Thanks for the response.

Just an aside, but I've been using Directv2PC extensively since the day it was released a few years ago and I've responded to literally hundreds if not thousands of posts in the forum and this is the first time I've had any need to try a SD recording. I simply don't record any SD. I think that may be true for most folks, except those that are in a DMA that doesn't provide HD local stations.
As a guess, I'd assume that Cyberlink, who developed this software, simply didn't provide whatever necessary to provide for SD playback.

Holy cow I just realized I've got the same issue with my computer, using DVI cables. I record almost exclusively in SD because I don't have an HDTV and so I use the SD versions to save recording capacity.

DCD,
Thank you for posting this information and participating so actively in the forums, it's a huge help. I just ran across the same issue with SD video formats trying to stream old Sesame Street shows for my kid. Please keep this thread active, I'm very interested in a resolution.
Thanks again.

I've submitted this situation to our contact at Directv and we'll see what we hear back, if anything.
