Password KEY is not recognized

Hi- I received my Directtv Cinema packet last week- and have had NO success with getting it to work. The issue is it is no recognizing my wireless key. We have NO problem with the key when others want to use our wireless access. In fact, we tested it the same day as we installed the packet. We did call the help line, and their answer was to pay to have an installer come out. No. I need help please. Thanks-

Be sure that your wireless key has no punctuation or special characters, such as "Bob's Network", which has an apostrophe.

Our wireless key is only numbers and letters. Quite simple actually- that is why it's so frustrating...so- next?

I'm having the same problem. I actually had 2 "Professional Technicians" coming in and they could not solve the problem!!! What kind of router do you use for your wireless network? There may be a compatibility issue. I have my network setup with an Apple Airport Express and I don't have a modem because we get the internet through fiber optic, so I'm wondering if maybe a different router would do!!! Please post if you have any luck Smile

I am having the same issue that linisima is, trying to get mine to connect to an Apple Time Capsule that has a DSL line. Have not had any installers come out but it will not accept the security key. Sounds like that this kit and apple products are not talking.

A couple of absolutes which may or may not apply to any of you.  BOTH the password and the network name MUST not contain any punctuation.  Secondly, your system must contain a router that is set up for DHCP auto configuration.

Many of the DSL providers are furnishing a combination modem that work's okay with computers but doesn't have the basic router capabilities that the CCK requires.  It would behoove each of you to seek and determine the presence of a DHCP signal on your network.

I went thru the apple tech forum and found the same mentions that any punctuations would need to be removed for it to accept the key. I changed the key to a lower number of characters with out the punctuation, and even tried removing the key altogether. It did not seem to matter what changes I made, the time capsule and CCK would not talk.

Is the DHCP signal something I need to look for within the Time Capsule or is it on the DSL line itself? Either way, any hints on how to determine if this is present or not.

Also, I spoke to someone with Directv tech support on the phone and it was mentioned that the type of security that is set up on the Time Capsule might be an issue. Do you have any knowledge of this being an issue? There are not alot of options with the Time Capsule as to the type of security WPA, WPA/WPA2 (personal or enterprise).

The DHCP is something that is normally set to "allow" in the router, or in your case the Time Capsule.  If you have the manual as to how to access the setup of the TC that would normally be done on your computer screen.  Here is a link (about half way down the page) for a setup app for whatever it's worth.

You didn't specifically mention it so just in case, be sure the network name as well as the password has no punctuation.  Also for whatever it's worth, here are the guidelines for resetting the WiFi Cinema Connection Kit and getting a fresh start.  This applies only to non Whole Home DVR systems.

Disconnect the CCK from the DVR but leave the AC connected. Use a ball point pen to reset the CCK in the small hole on the back. Check that the router has DHCP enabled (essential) and has no MAC or firewall enabled. Assure that the network name and password contains no symbols other than numbers and letters. Do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR.  When it's all booted up, connect the Ethernet jumper cable from the CCK to the DVR, wait (patience, it takes a few) for the offer to connect and select your network and enter the password. You may get an invite to connect, is so, accept. If not do thus: Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> restore defaults -> connect now. You should get a "connected to Internet" message. Allow 24 hours for the system to download then try downloading a concert from channel 1239 as a test.

I will need to change the network name, it has a punctuation in it. Will also look in the airport app for allowing DHCP in the Time Capsule. I will double check for the firewall, but I don't believe that it is enabled. Is the reset procedure essentially the same with whole home DVR with the exception of the ethernet cable? Also, will enableling DHCP cause any issues with the connection for ipads, ipods, or a macbook.

I just noticed something that I did not mention and actually mis-typed, I have whole home dvr with a DECA not a CCK.

That should be #1 priority, and may well correct your entire problem.

Thanks dcd and peds48, I changed the network name and double checked the the DHCP setting, also performed a reset of the Time Capsule. Once everything came back up I did a restore defaults on reciever and red button reset. I also disconnected the DECA and reconnected. Went through the setup process and it connected. Checked the program guide this morning and it is downloading the programming and also checked the Directv app on my ipad and it see's all of my recievers and my recordings. Now if there was just a way to watch my recordings on my ipad or iphone the stars would align and there would be world peace.
