PLEASE HELP- Connecting HR21 to Internet//Wireless
I have an HR21/200 DTV receiver with a DTV wireless adapter that has been connected and working for some time. A few weeks ago, ATT replaced my 2-wire wireless router with a new device. Exact same router, just new.
I CAN'T connect to the Internet.
When I go thru the procedure, everything goes according to plan, except I can't get the receiver/adapter to accept my wireless network Security Key.
I have reset everything, including remote entry into to router to verify I am using the correct key.
My wireless printer and laptop are both functioning properly using this network and security key.
Direct TV says the issue is my ISP, and I am not convinced that is the case.
Any suggestions on trouble shooting?
Thanks

make sure that your new SSID does not contain any special characters such as putter's network or putter&son. then go ahead and press the reset button with a paper clip on the DCCK. after that reset the HDDVR and under network connections do a restore defaults and connect now. you should get a message that you are connected to the internet.

Try removing the security from the 2Wire temporarily and see if the adapter will connect the DVR to the Internet that way. We see lot's of problems posted from folks trying to connect to 2Wire boxes.
I assume you understand that Peds48 was referring to your network name when he said SSID? A name like "sid's" won't work.

I tried that as well. Turned of firewall and security. Tried to connect. It finds my network (Thomas) and when I choose connect now, it continues to loop back to the page that says: The following network was found-Connect Now.
I have all but given up.
Thanks

Another note- As I mentioned earlier, my Security key is all numbers. when I use the number pad on the remote to type in the key, only he number 2 requires that I scroll thru all of the options. Ex. when I hit the #2 button, I must hit it several times to scroll thru A,B,C, a,b,c, and then the #2 appears. All other numbers don't act similarly. If I hit 4, 4 comes up immediately, #6, the same, etc. I don't know what would happen if my security key was all letters. I'm noy sure I could type it in????

The SSID is NOT your security key, it's the name of your network, so my point was Thoma's wouldn't work. I'm going to post the complete instructions for configuring a wireless adapter for Directv use. Note that the connection is a two step process. First the wireless adapter must connect to the router and pass the security test. Secondly the HD DVR uses the adapter to connect to the router and the Internet. You are stuck on the first step and this does not involve the HD DVR in any way, it all has to do with the adapter and your router. As an aside, Directv markets their own wireless adapter that connects very easily. Here are the instructions:
Disconnect the wireless adapter from the DVR. Connect the adapter to your computer or router (see adapter manual) via a Ethernet cable. Check that the router has DHCP enabled (essential). On your computer using the software that came with the adapter configure the adapter to your router. Assure that the computer can connect to the Internet via the adapter.
When the adapter is configured to the router, move the adapter to the DVR and connect the Ethernet cable, then do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR. When it's all booted up, do thus: Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> restore defaults -> connect now. You should get a "connected to Internet" message. Allow 24 hours for the system to download then try downloading a concert from channel 1239 as a test.

I appreciate your response. I may have confused you. The wireless adapter that I have is from Direct TV. It is a Linksys. Got it from them a couple of years ago. My Network name is Thomas. No apostrophe.
Should I still go thru the steps you describe?
Thanks again.

Yes, the process is the same for all wireless adapters. The Kit I referred to is new, came out after the Linksys. No matter who's adapter you use, the connection is again, a two step process. The first is the adapter must connect to the router. Once that is done, the Ethernet port on the adapter is for all intents and purposes, the same as a Ethernet port on the router itself.
