Poor HD DVR Network Operation

I have a H23/700 DVR connected to an access point via ethernet and then wirelessly to my network.

When trying to play network stored music or pictures, the DVR sees my network computer(s), asks what type of media and the source.  After awhile it displays the computer folders.  It then tells me that it can't access the computer and that the folders contain no media.  If I persist it will eventually load and play the media.  I'm using Windows 7, a D-Link DIR-601 router, a TP-LINK TL-WA901ND  access point and MS Media Player. I tried to connect via ethernet directly to my router and bypass the access point with the same results.  My picture files displayed under Pictures in Media Center in the path c:\users\jerry\my photos\.  How do I get the DVR to perform properly?

Windows 7 by default creates a set of "Public" folders. The Mediashare feature uses Windows Media Player again by default so I never even mess around with Media Center. Open Windows Media Player, click on Stream and put a check mark on both allow and automatically, then click more and allow all the devices. Then try putting a few MP3 music files in the Public/Music folder and see if they don't pop right up when you select music on the DVR's screen.

As to the wired network, I like wired a lot better than wireless.
