re: how to connect receiver to the internet not working.

Ii just got direct tv installed i'm trying to get my hddvr receiver connected to the internet since i was told by direct tv customer service rep i needed so do get the direct cinema plus that i signed up for when i started service. apparently i had ordered the whole home dvr service also but the install did not set this  up and want to send a technician over to set up my whole home dvr network  however, i am still able to record movies from any room and watch them. But i am not able to get my dvr receiver online. my hd dvr receiver only has one port in the back at first the light was not on so they had me reset it now it is on but it will still not get a internet connection i've tried connecting directly to my modem and also to my router however no success. changed cable still no success. My internet works fine with my laptops an ps3 wired and wireless. what do you recommend? fyi i cancelled the service call since it made no sense to have someone come over and do the whole home dvr when it was already working but i am still not getting direct tv cinema plus access.
