Recording ONLY first run episodes

When I choose "Only New Episodes" in Series Manager, DTV records anything in the series not currently recorded on the DVR--even episodes from 9 seasons ago!  Years ago, I remember an option for First Run Only.  Does this feature still exist?   I only want new/first aired shows, not reruns.

Yes, but the method you use to setup the series determines how it records.  Using search will setup the default recordings of all channels, reruns and On Demand regardless of how you setup the DVR this is for binge watchers.  Using the guide to find the program then pressing the record button twice sets up series per how you set up the DVR.  Sometimes the content providers will not provide the correct air date or the air date to the guide makers so the DVR will record it.

Thanks.  I normally program through the guide, then choose Only New Episodes.  I still get recordings of previously aired.  It seems too consistent to blame on air date data errors...

I  just double checked.  The same  option for Only New Episodes is available regardless of locating the series through the guide or through search.  One helpful thing is when you use Search, you can specify which seasons to record.  That's a little help, but I'd still like to see an actual First Run option.

The DVR does have a "first run" option. The problem is it relies on the metadata which comes with the guide data and there are all sorts of reasons why this is often wrong.  It's usually correct for first run of network shows and often incorrect for syndicated programming.

What shows are recording older episodes?

I just got my Directv Stream devices last week and am having some issues since there wasn't a user guide and I can't find some info online.

I have not been able to find how to record only NEW episodes on my DVR and there isn't an intuitive way to make this happen. I am frustrated and confused as to how to do this. If there is an easy way (I read "swipe right" but I don't think my remote does that) to do this that works, please share! Thanks!

I tried to refresh but the instructions that say  the following isn't possible as there isn't a place to select refresh receiver. I am SO frustrated-more and more issues every single day! Please tell me/show me where to find "refresh receiver" in case it is operator error. thanks!!

Go to My equipment & services.
Review the equipment you have and identify the impacted receiver(s).
Select Refresh receiver to begin.
