@ajwaltzthird

What is the model number of the receiver? Do you have any other receivers? If so, what receiver models are those?

Over 5-10 years? Not impossible something is just showing their age.

What model box(es)?

Which one(s) are affected?

Model of remote?

Wipe front panel of box and makes sure nothing in the way (assuming using IR).

Verify coax is finger tight

Check batteries.

Red button reset the box.

You can also unplug power from the box for 1-2 minutes. This clears old cached memory in case some bad data is the cause for the lag. This does clear the guide data which has to download from the satellite again. Within 24 to 48hrs that should be loaded again. Lag might not go away until that is finished processing.

A 5 year old box is essentially the newest HR54 while a 10 year old box would be the HR34, H25, or even an HR24.

Well 5 years ago you could still fairly easily to compliment the Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54) with HR24s. Also the HR44 was still rather common in stock as HR54 was somewhat prioritized to support the 4K Client (C61K).

No matter how long ago someone 'recalls' when they got a box, I personally want the model number for assurance that everyone is on the same page and best possible info is given. I respect the likeliness based on context, but I feel much better about the guidance I provide when I can be sure. A little OCD on my part I guess.

@Juniper

No problem. I asked for the model number as well. Was just eluding to the fact that they said they had  a ‘5-10 year old’ receiver

I wonder if that 5-10 years is the manufacture date or when they got the box. Also with that wide a spread, perhaps a good chance it is older? I am curious to find out.

Change the batteries in your remote. Reset your receiver.
