Samsung Smart TV Genie remote will not control volume anymore

We bought a 70" Samsung Smart TV and the Direct TV Remote Volume control stopped working.

This is bad because the remote for the TV will not go High enough for full volume.

The Genie Remote can't be programmed per instructions as the prompts are different than the online

instructions

Let’s get your remote working again, @Auditdude24

Having one remote that works both your receiver and basic TV functions is always convenient. We can provide some steps to get yours working again.

  1. Turn the TV and Receiver on, then reset the remote to factory defaults:
    1. Press and Hold Mute and Select until the Green light at the top blinks twice
    2. Release both buttons and enter 981 on the keypad. The Green light should blink four times
  2. Pair Remote to Genie in RF:
    1. Press and Hold Mute and Enter (bottom of remote below the 9 key) while aiming the remote at the blue power light
    2. Wait for a message “Your Remote has been successfully set up to RF”, and press Select
  3. Walk through the menu to program your Genie Remote to your Samsung TV

If the codes in the receiver do not work the volume, you can use our Code Look Up Tool for manual codes; for the most options, “I don’t know my model”.  The steps are a bit different for the Genie Remotes, but we will help with that:

  1. Press and Hold Mute and Select until the Green Light blinks twice
  2. Press 1 on the keypad, the light will blink twice again
  3. Enter the remaining 4 digits of the code, the light will blink twice again
  4. Test the code by pressing volume up
  5. Repeat above steps with the next code if the volume does not increase

One final tip: if the volume works during the test while you are still in the programming screen, but does not work when you exit out to live programming, we may need to run through programming an audio device:

  1. Settings & Help > Settings > Remote Control > Program Remote
  2. Program or Change Audio Device
  3. If you do not have a sound bar, choose the same brand as your TV and “I don’t know my model”. Choose “It Worked” on the first code.
  4. The final step will allow you to choose what the volume key works, choose the TV Setting
