Satellite issues on HD channels Are my signals too low

I get Satellite issues on certain HD channels and often forced me to watch in SD (if its also available)

Possibly tied to an occasional 771 code. My signal strengths are :

On SL5 to SWM8

101  91-100
99 (ca)  66-76
99 (cb)  71-74
103(ca) 62-80
103(cb) 74-84

If alignment is needed is there any way to tell by relative strengths above, aiming from San Diego,  whether it's and inclination, direction or skew issue ?

Thanks in advance

Alan

The fact you are getting a signal means the dish is aimed correctly, you just have to fine tune it.

After getting All Sats to 0, with what's generally referred to as dumb luck, I got 119 & 101 back to the 90's and 99&103 up into the 80's.

Tightened everything down and we'll hope for the best.

Thanks to everyone

Yes those are to low, there are videos on youtube that may help you to align the dish.

Yes, your signal strength is low I would call customer service and tell them that you have been having an issue and they might be able to send someone out to readjust your sat for free and ask them for credit because you have not been able to watch your shows how you like.  When I was a Sat. customer I had the same issue and they sent someone out and fixed it for free, and gave me credit on my bill.  It can be a pain to try and adjust them yourself if you do not know what you are doing.

@sterlinga it wouldn’t be a skew issue, most likely direction because the dish should be aimed just enough that it sees all three satellites properly. It could also be elevation but very unlikely since all satellites do come in at the very least. You can follow YouTube videos online showing how to dither the DIRECTV dish.

I forgot to include 119 stats but they're all the 90s.

Any clue is to which way I should fine tune it.

My poor logic would tell me that if 119 and 101 are coming in perfectly it must be an elevation issue to fine tune for 99 and 103....

But that's My logic.

No, it's not just skew. It's about fine tuning (dithering) the azimuth and elevation. 101 and 119º are stronger because their satellite frequencies are different. The challenge is to tweak the dish's azimuth & elevation to peak the readings from 99 and 103º. And DirecTV doesn't even use 119ºW for anything in the US anymore.

They're not going to be able to help you with this via chat. If you can't tweak the alignment yourself, you'll need to call for a service visit.
