Save recording in Media Player format

Is there any way to save a recording from my playlist to my computer hard drive?  I recorded Game 7 of Lakers/Celtics and would like to keep it on a DVD but can't figure out how to get it on my hard drive in a format that can be burned to DVD.  Is this even possible?
