sees my receiver and lists my shows but says error occurred when try to play it

The first time I installed the program it saw my receiver and I was able to watch several shows I had recorded. That was the last time it worked. Sometimes it sees my receiver and sometimes it does not. When I am lucky enough to actually see my shows listed I think that I finally got it working again. but it just says make sure you are connected to receiver or error occurred but gives no details. Anyone else having this problem of it working once then never again. I have not changed any settings or hardware. This has been going on for over a month now. Thanks for any suggestions anyone might have.
