Signal from receiver will not go thru HD splitter out to TV
I'm trying to install a four way HD splitter so I can hook up both dvr (HR20-700) and gaming system into my older hd tv which only has one HD input. As receiver goes thru start up everything looks fine but then when it finishes the signal does not go thru the switch to the tv. When I put the HDMI cable back direct between the receiver and tv everything is fine. Splitter is an Auvio I bought from Radioshack.
Any suggestions?

what is an "four way HD splitter"? if you are referring to an HDMI splitter, maybe is not compatible with all the HD resolutions. try pressing the RES button on the front panel of the HDDVR's and cycle to all the resolutions, pausing for a minute between them. see if that helps.

Passive HD splitters usually do not work correctly, because with the latest copy protection and other handshakes between the devices and the TV, the TV does not know which device it is talking to. You need an "active" HDMI splitter such as those from Monoprice, see http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10113#1011301. Maybe someone using one of these can give you a recommendation.

Splitters have a single input and multiple outputs. The op is trying to use it as a multiple input device, thus attempting to push the signals backwards through the splitter. This is an application for an HDMI switch, not a splitter. I know these are available, but I have no experience with them.

there are HDMI splitter as well as HDMI switches. and also there are HDMI switches with built in splitters also known as HDMI matrix switches.

Beware of this installation scenario!
I have spent hours with tech support at Monoprice (model # HDMI-140E3 4 way HDMI splitter) and DirecTV (model # HR22-100) regarding the failure of these two products to play nice together. Both companies basically shrug and say "not our fault". This is extremely frustrating, ESPECIALLY since I returned a Monoprice Switcher, and based on their recommendation, bought this splitter instead. I had intended to use this box to split the output of my soon to be purchased new A/V receiver to three different TV's in my house, already prewired for HDMI. Neither company offered me ANY helpful info.
Monoprice suggested an HDMI equalizer (amplifier) between the HR22 and the splitter. Didn't work. Monoprice DID tell me the DirecTV spec has recently changed, and that the newer DVRs & receivers have a stronger HDMI output signal and should work. DirecTV verified this, but were NOT in ANY way willing to swap out my receiver. Even though it is a "reconditioned" unit they sent me to replace a faulty box in the first place, and has a loose HDMI output jack. I'm very disappointed.
The young lady at DirecTV "tech support" was very nice, but obviously had NO technical experience, and had to put me on hold for a total of more than 45 minutes to ask questions of others. I am very tech savvy, and find this particularly infuriating. When you call someone for tech support, and immediately tell them you need to speak to someone who can answer specific tech questions, I feel I should know LESS than the folks I'm speaking to, not more. Funnily enough, they did NOT offer to "upgrade" me to the new whole home system. When I asked about getting the new system, she said, "well, I guess that would work".
So.... it looks like I'll be calling ATT about U-verse TV. Bummer!

Explain what problem you are having and we might be able to help, or at least suggest why it is happening.

Hello texasbrit.
I appreciate such a quick response.
I purchased the Monoprice HDMI-140E3 4 way active HDMI splitter to use specifically to split the HDMI output of my direct TV receiver to three HD TV's in my home. I prewired the house during construction with top end HDMI runs. None more than 35'. The splitter works beautifully with my $99 Samsung DVD player and also my Apple TV 2 to any and all TV's. No problems whatsoever. My HR22-100 DirecTV DVR however, does not work. It works fine into any of the TV's directly, but through the splitter there is no signal, even with just one TV connected.
I spent an hour with Monoprice, and an hour with DirecTV tech support, and came away with nothing. I tried linking 80' of cable with a back-to-back to see if it was cable loss. Worked fine. I tried an HDMI equalizer/amplifier between the DVR and the splitter at the request of Monoprice. No luck. The young lady I spoke to at DirecTV told me that someone else in her office says the splitter isn't supported, but did not elaborate. That's about it. I was told that the newer DVR's have a better quality output signal, but was told I'm stuck with what I have. Unless I want to upgrade and sign a new contract. Not willing to do that at this point.
I've noticed doing some research that I am not the only one with this issue. I am intending to buy a Denon A/V receiver to switch all of my inputs. I see that there is an issue there as well, so I'm on hold with that. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It's probably not a fault in the DVR, or the level of the output signal, and I haven't seen any other reports of the same issue - if you have please post a link.
My first guess is that there's an HDMI handshake issue between the DVR and one of the TVs, or between the DVR and the Monoprice splitter, and this is causing the HDMI output to shut down. Try the single HDMI cable to each of the remote TVs in turn, and see if it works for all of them. Post back with the results.
This type of problem is not unusual by the way, with DirecTV and other boxes like Dish, cable and FIOS,, and also with the interface between some A/V receivers and some TVs. The HDMI "standard" is really poor, and the HDCP copy protection makes it worse. FYI, DirecTV does not "support" any HDMI splitters, neither do Dish etc, because of these issues. If you used a different splitter, you might find the problem went away. Similarly if you used a different model number of DVR (even just changing the type of HR22), because the manufacturers use different tpes of HDMI chip.
