Stream to Media Player

I just open my D-link DSM-520 and noticed that the DirectTV2PC was listed as a media player. I chose it and it found all my recordings but when I went to view them they would not play. What can I do to play these files on my media player? The player support the file type - mpeg2?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Your question is confusing and involves both apples and oranges.

The Directv2PC program involves 3rd party software that you install on your computer whereby you can watch programming from your networked DVR on your PC. The player involved has an interface that is a replica of the player on the DVR.

The Media Share program is software that is contained within the DVR that will play music, video and picture files from a networked computer. Windows Media Player 11 can be set to share files with the DVR and those files can be MP3, MPG2 or JPG.

You'll need to read the various information and instruction tips on the main forum page. After you get hooked up to both the Internet and your network, you can post back if you're having problems. Be sure to include all of the details as to what DVR you have, how you mare connected etc. Almost every question you can imagine has been asked before, so doing some reading of prior posts will help you.

Sorry for the confusion. I just downloaded the software to my PC. I am waiting for my serial number.

I know how all of that works and I am going to assume that it works well once I get the serial number.

I can use my Directv to play media no problems!

My questions revovles around the new choice I have on my DSM-520 from D-link. It list the Directv2PC media server as a choice. I choose it and I can view all of my files on my HR20-100 but it is unable to play them. I was wondering why it would list all of the files but not be able to play them. The DSM-520 can play MPG2 files!

The programming on the DVR is in proprietary format and will only play on either the DVR itself or on a PC that has the Directv2PC software resident. What I was trying to explain is that MPG2 format from the DVR to your PC is irrelevant, has no bearing whatever. It's MPG2 files FROM THE PC TO THE DVR that will play MPG2 using Media Share. I'm unfamiliar with the D-link box you have, but am suspicious it will not be useful in either of the available Directv programs. Both of these programs are fairly straightforward when using the appropriate equipment IE: A HD DVR, a PC with WMP11 and Directv2PC software, a router, a ISP and appropriate network connections. Adding other boxes, servers etc unnecessarily complicate things and frequently lead to a no go situation.
