Streaming during a storm

I have DirecTV satellite service and during a recent storm a message on my TV asked if I wanted to continue watching via streaming.  I selected streaming but now that the storm has passed, how do I get satellite feed back? Only way I could do it was to restart the receiver.
thanks.

You should be able to just change the channel and a pop-up should say ‘Now using satellite feed.’

It should automatically return to the sat feed when the storm passes so it sounds like the dish needs to be aligned this can also be the reason it changed to streaming in the first place, there are videos on youtube if you want to try it yourself, otherwise you have to call DTV 1 800 531 5000 to setup a tech visit.

In the past (like last week) it has gone back to satellite feed once the storm passed but today it stayed on broadband streaming. This is the first time it happened with my Genie.  Maybe DTV changed something?

Switching channels seems to work

Nope, it only changes to streaming when it loses the sat signal and returns to the sat signal when it returns, it sounds like your sat signal is not returning so that is 99% of the time is a dish alignment problem.

from what i can tell this feature does not work for people with only certain kinds of equipment?

This feature works with common Genie HD DVRs. This will include the HR44, HR54, and HS17. It is required that these receivers be connected to the Internet, whether wired (Ethernet) or wireless over WiFi (2.4GHz or 5GHz).

Why wouldn’t you be able to use a Genie? If you still have SD equipment like the D10, D11, D12, R15, and R16 (or miscallaneous ones like the HR10, H10, R10, etc) then DIRECTV can ‘do a SD swap’ free of charge for a Genie HD DVR. This will either be an HR54 or HS17.

What are your current receiver models? You may be due for an upgrade.

because i have 14 boxes and Genie doesnt support that many.. In addition Genie does not allow you to segment recordings so that people only see what they record on certain boxes..

You are misinterpreting. Genie doesn’t support that many “Genie clients” but NOT standalone regular boxes. You can technically have an infinite number of standalone HD and HDDVR boxes with an HR54 receiver given you have the right amount of tuners and dishes. Getting back to my original question, what are the receiver models? You can simply swap an SD box (if you have one) or another older receiver for an HR54. No other work is needed.

I was told by support that I could not mix and match.. I have 3 separate networks of recordings set up. If I go to a genie it would not be able to view recordings on the other devices.

Sorry, you got wrong information. The Genie receiver is able to view recordings from every other HDDVR as well as share it’s recordings to the other receivers as well. If you currently have an HDDVR networked with the other boxes to share recordings with WHDVR, swapping it with a Genie box doesn;t make a difference.

You still must be on the old billing system as the new RC1 account limits you to 8 devices.

If I get the Genie that still wont mean i can see  the recordings from the other dvrs on the APP though just the ones the Genie records? of course since using the APP to view things means I lose so many channels I cant really use that to replace my rcvrs either.

The Genie will show all the DVRs recordings in the playlist as will the DVRs unless you have selected to hide the DVR recordings on each one.
