What text?  

Are you talking about Closed Caption text?

What DVR/Receiver model number?

Press INFO then right arrow to CC press select then arrow down to the one you want.  CC  puts it in a box it doesn't scroll.

Going that route you should see captioning.

Instead of selecting Display, select Accessibility, then Captioning
