Trying to Upgrade -- 4 Crazy Problems

I had a standard def receiver and directv working for months. Recently I bought a plasma tv and got a free H20 receiver from Best Buy. I'm trying to set up the H20 high def receiver in time for this week's college games and have run into a host of problems. Spent 4.5 hours on phone with directv getting no where. Can anyone help?

Disclaimer: I was initially told I need to split my signal; then another representative told me I need to have two signals coming into my receiver. In the dark, I plugged in a coax from a jack labeled "aux" in my apartment to the RF (remote) outlet. That was an error but I can't disconnect now. That could contribute to the problems below....(If anyone wants to explain why I would have to split the signal or why I would need two coaxes coming in that might help too...)

Here's the background:
After a lot of effort, I could not get the guided set up to work perfectly. Confirmed with my apt complex that we have an oval 3 LNB satellite. During the guided set up I would get an "ok" message on the 101 degree sat but failed on all the others. Also, in working with Directv I have registered my card and my box (could I have read a # wrong?) I don't know....

Generally, in the channel guide very few channels are showing up, after time passes some more seem to show up; some of the channels showing up work and some don't; some of the channels present in the guide are cable channels, some aren't.

After all the efforts, I can characterize my issues in terms of these four problems:
(1) Most channels are unavailable/not working in both the channel guide and in typing in the channel
(2) I was watching 212, the nfl network this morning and then it rebooted itself, when it came back I could not watch that channel
(3) of the channels not in the guide, I can type in some channels and they work;
(4) Of the channels in the guide but not working I have three errors:
(a) An error message on a black screen saying call customer service that I don't have an active account;
(b) An message saying searching for satellite signal which doesn't go away;
(c) I don't get any HDTV even though I have an off-air HDTV antenna attached. I would expect that some of the broadcast stuff would have worked.

Can anyone help? Any information which could lead me to figure this out by tomorrow would be great!
