Lets get your AT&T Directv picture working @Bean36!

There are several things that could cause an issue with the video signal going out so we have some additional questions, along with some steps you can try on your own to resolve.

  • Is this happening with one or multiple/all channels?
  • When the screen goes black, can you still get the channel information by pressing the INFO button on the remote?
  • Do you get any error messages that appear at any time?

Here are some things you can do yourself:

  1. Check the Connections:
    • Check the Video/Audio cable that connects between the AT&T DIRECTV receiver and the TV itself. This is normally a HDMI cable if using all HD equipment. Disconnect/Reconnect this connection from both receiver and TV, if you can.
    • Try a different port on the TV, i.e., if you have it connected to HDMI 1, try HDMI 2. You will need to correct the input as well if you do that.
    • Try a different Video/Audio cable, it can be the same type but just to test the cable itself.
  2. Check the satellite cable that connects from the AT&T DIRECTV receiver and the satellite wall plate (or it may go through wall/floor without a plate).
  3. Reboot the AT&T DIRECTV receiver, either with the red button on the receiver, or by unplugging for 15 sec from the power connection then plugging it back in.
  4. Test your TV with another device to ensure the issue isn’t with the TV.

Here is some additional settings to check in the AT&T DIRECTV receiver.

In some receivers there is a Native setting that can cause issue with video sometimes, ensure it is off would resolve if that was the issue. Some receivers do not have this setting so if you do not have it, that is fine.

  1. Press Menu > Settings & Help > Settings > Display > Video
  2. Highlight the field next to Native and press Select.
  3. Cycle through the options until Off is highlighted and press Select.

Also check the receiver’s resolution settings to ensure you only have ones your TV supports selected:

  1. Press Menu > Settings & Help > Settings > Display > TV Resolutions
  2. Highlight the first field that currently has a check mark and press Select, removing the check mark.
  3. Highlight the same field and press Select again.
  4. Should get: If you can see this message, your TV supports this resolution. Press the INFO key to confirm.
    • If you see the message, you must press Info on the remote within 15 seconds. This re-adds the check mark.
    • If you cannot see the message, video returns after 15 seconds. This would mean your TV does not support that resolution.

Please let us know if this answers your question!
