Unable to connect HD DVR to internet

I have a HR24-500 HD DVR that is hooked up via ethernet cable to my qwest modem.  I do not have MRV or SWM.  The firewall in the qwest modem is set to off.  I have a sony blu ray that is connected to the modem via wireless connection in addition to my laptop and Iphone.  All are working fine.  I know the Ethernet port on the modem is also working fine as I can hook a LAN line to my laptop and get on-line.

Whenever I go through Network Setup on my DVR, it says unable to connect to the internet and the Ethernet light on the front of the modem doesn't light up.  DTV referred me here, as they were unable to help me.  HELP!!  Thanks.

Does this work for the 24-100 as well or is just a certain receiver? I do not have WHDVR, just HDDVR.

Thanks

The HR24 comes default set with the Ethernet port disabled.  To enable it, connect the Ethernet cable to a router and do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR.  That will activate the port.  The basic connection sequence follows.  Not all of the steps are always required, but if you do them all in the  sequence listed you will connect.

Connect the Ethernet cable to the top port of the DVR and an open port on the router.  Check that the router has DHCP enabled (essential).  Then do thus:  Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> restore defaults.  At this point stop and go to your router and disconnect AC power for a minute and plug it back in.  When all the lights settle down, go back to the DVR and run the "connect now" command.  You should get a "connected to Internet" message.   Allow 24 hours for the system to download then try downloading a concert from channel 1239 as a test.

So here is where I am:

I have gone through all of the instructions listed at the top and in post #17, but have only received the same connection error message. I am not in doubt that this solution does not work, rather I'm excited of the prospect that it will work. Unfortunately, where I stand now, I cannot connect. I did run my router's configuration to ensure that DHCP is in fact enabled, which it is, but I still encounter the error.

I ran the steps one more time and still receive the error message "A problem was detected." Result Code: 86-594.

Bear with me for one second. I am a moron. I have two boxes set up in my entertainment center, DVR and Bluray receiver, and accidentally plugged into the Bluray player. I am now connected to the internet via my DVR. Thank you, everyone, for your help.

I guess the saying "is so easy that even a caveman can do it"  does not always apply.....Laughing

Glad you figure it out.  Enjoy!

Best to start your own new thread using the "Create New Post" button on the main forum page. Your problem may very well be different from the original poster's. With a new thread you can provide more information about your equipment (model numbers), location, and troubleshooting you've tried so far. And this forum software makes it difficult to track or respond to folks that add onto someone else's thread. Thank you.

Yes, start your own fresh thread.  Your situation is totally different than the other folks who have posted to this thread.
