Vizio M3D550SR not working with Directv H20

My new TV works great with my Sony 3D Blu Ray, but I am having problems with Directv. The TV recongnizes the 3d content and ask me if I want to switch to 3D. When I switch, there is no picture, only audio. The 2D video does not fill the entire screen fwiw.

I  have swapped cables, but I still do not get a picture. The M3D550SR is listed as a compatible TV, but it's not working for me. Any ideas before I haul this heavy TV back to Wal Mart?

An H20 will not work with 3D. Are you sure that's what you have? It should give a message that it does not support 3D. You can trade the H20 in for a 3D capable receiver for free if you call for a 3D upgrade. 3D receivers do not have built in over the air tuners though.

I appologize, that was my old model. I have an HR22-100. Thanks for the response! Any ideas now that you have correct info?

Is the HR22 connected directly to the TV by a single HDMI cable? Are you talking about some programming not filling the screen or all programs, especially HD?

Yes, the HR22 is connected directly to the TV with an hdmi cable. I tried swapping the cable for another, but no luck.

In 2D mode in 2D regular channels (Cnn, etc), everything is fine with the picture filling the entire screen and excellent quality. On 3d channels when in 2D mode, I get the small screen. And on 3D channels in 3Dmode, I get the blank dark screen I previously mentioned.

I take it 2D mode is a Visio setting since the HR22 has nothing like that. Check other possibilities on the Visio. 3D comes with different methods of delivery. Most TVs have some kind of Auto setting to sample the feed and determine which to use. DirecTV uses side by side.

A search(bottom of page) of this forum for Visio might turn up some more information. Be aware though some of the posts may be old and superseded by later information so check them all. I seem to remember early problems with Visio looking like they would not work but later discoveries led to success.

New development I got up this morning and it was working. I watched a little while and it stopped working. Then i reset the TV to factory settings and now it is working again.

At this point I do not know if it's a faulty tv or some miscommunication with DirecTV. Since it works with the 3d blu ray I think the directv signal has some incompatibility with the tv.

I just need to decide now if I should return the tv. Ideas? Suggestions?

Blu-Ray uses a different signal type. If you are seeing success and failure alternate on the same channel, I'd take the TV back. If the failure is only on ESPN, there may be a workaround. If DirecTV 3D is important to you though, I'd look at sets marked compatible at the DirecTV web site or the thread here listing TVs known to work. http://forums.directv.com/message/10886686#10886686

I do have success and failure alternate on the same channel, and my tv is listed as compatible with directv. I'll see if Visio has some insight. Thanks for your help.

I have the exact same problem with my tv.  I recently got a M3D420SR, and just today, when i select a 3d channel, it plays a 2d screen fine, but when switched to 3d format, picture goes out.  I can still hear it, but the picture is gone.  remote is unresponsive also.

I too have this same problem with my M3D420SR, I have had the Direct TV techs out to the house and they cannot figure this out either. So any suggestions from people would be great!

I am now able to get all the 3D channels EXCEPT 104. If you want to try what I did, press the via button, go to 'help' and select 'reset tv settings' and then select 'clear memory (factory default)'...of course you will lose all your settings and any apps you've set up and/or downloaded.

After doing this, I get an error message on channel 104 saying my tv is no compatible with 1080p/24 content, but at least the others work.
