VOD Buffers

According to the DTV web site I should be able to see VOD for movies and network channel.  The minimum stated is 750kb with 2Mb recommended.  I have 2.78 MB DSL and it buffers no matter what the content.  This happens on all three of my receivers.  I have no problem with Netflix or Amazon Prime.

I chatted today with 7 different ATT reps to finally get told to call the 800 number.  After 3 transfers on the 800 number      I have been on hold for 35 minutes.  This is the user hostile customer support.  After 40 minutes I finally was connected to someone in a foreign country that I could not understand.  She said she would transfer me, so this is the 5th rep while on hold.

I suspect no one from Directv will ever respond to this post.

This latest tech says its my DSL provider is the problem.  I need greater than the published speed to be able to use the VOD.

I am about to cancel this service due to the inability to provide services as stated on their web site.

That is old info you now need at least 10Mps to stream programs with only 2Mps recording is your only choice.  All streaming providers tailor the resolution to fit your bandwidth while the channels send it in the resolution it was made in.

If you cancel while still under contract the ETF will apply.  DTV is still providing the contracted satellite services and has no control over what your ISP can suppy.

If this is controlled by the content provider why does Directv publish on their web site the minimum of 750 Kb/s with a recommended 2 Mb/s to be able to watch VOD.

If you do a Google search for "How do I connect my Genie or HD DVR to the Internet" there is  a statement on this page "like access to thousands of DIRECTV on Demand movies and shows" available to users via the Internet.

@Elevator515

The Channel VOD Servers are NOT owned or Controlled by D*TV --That is why there is NO $ Charge for VOD on your Monthly Bill.

As Suggested --Choose your VOD program and the Press record --Based on your Internet speed --Allow TIME for the Download to complete before viewing.

The CHANNEL Servers Send the Full 1080i or 1080P down the pipe --Where as the "STREAMING" Servers (netfilx Amazon) Compress the Video --That's why the D*TV  NON-Controlled Channel Servers will fail will trying to view a program while downloading a Show on a SLOW internet connection.

It's NOT a D*TV Caused Problem --

That very well be that the content providers send the 1080 video which requires the higher BW.  The point I am making is they publish incorrect capabilities which is a case of false advertising.

Technically I understand why the higher BW is required, it just pi**es me off that I spend an hour and a half on the phone being transferred to 9 different customer support people and the final one says I need higher speed.

As a communications company AT&T has the most user hostile customer support I have ever encountered.  Starting with people in foreign countries that can not speak American English.  Is not the first work in the company name "American".  When they took over DirecTV they had no idea how their systems worked and the patchwork of links between the two companies never considered the customer.
