What do I need to do to be able to watch recorded on demand programs on other boxes besides one  it was recorded on?

I believe the only way to watch recorded on demand on a receiver other than where it was recorded is on a Genie client. Any other receiver I believe won’t allow it. I know for sure a DVR can not watch on demand recorded on a different DVR.

Thanks but if that was true then I would not be able to watch some recorded shows on other receivers but not others. Sometimes this even happens between different episodes of the same program. But I can not find a way to tell when a show can be recorded and then watched on a different receiver. Any ideas?

Not sure what you are asking but you can watch satellite recordings on a different receiver provided you have the whole home dvr service on your account. If you are wondering how to differentiate between a satellite recording an on demand, the on demand channel number will be 1xxx. For example, TNT is channel 245. Anything recorded from TNT’s on demand would be channel 1245.

I am not sure what you mean by a satellite recording but I do have whole home dvr service. I will give you an example. There was a new show on that I watched then checked to see if the other episodes were on demand. This was on Fox ch5. I found 3 episodes which I set up to record. Later when I went to watch these on a different receiver I see the redo circle which says it can only be watched on the recording receiver. Yet I had recorded the episode that I was watched and it can be watched on any receiver. I hope this example makes what I am asking clearer. Thanks.

A satellite recording is a recording of any show on a satellite channel. On demand shows do not come over the satellite, they are downloaded or streamed over the internet. Your original recording on channel 5 was a satellite recording. The on demand shows you “recorded” (actually downloaded) came from Fox’s on demand channel. Look at the channel of those recordings you can’t play on a different receiver, I bet it is channel 1011. That is Fox’s on demand channel number.

OK thanks, that makes a bit more sense. When I said recorded I guess then I mean downloaded and recorded. There is always the choice to watch or record. I see what you mean about the ch number. I just did not know that mattered since I am able to watch some programs on other receivers which have at extra 1 in the ch number while others I can't watch on other receivers. Do some channels allow their downloaded recorded shows to be played on any receiver and other do not? If so how do I know which programs can be played on any receiver and which ones can not before I download the program?

Does not answer mean you don't know the answer or something else?
