When is DIRECTV going to fix Videoguard.13.0?

I have been watching Directv on my Windows computer.
Today I was not able to and received a popup to download
VideoGuard 13.0! (It was already active). However, I did
and tried to install it.  Install failed with a 1371 error.
I called the experts at Directv who didn't have a clue!
I did some research and discovered there was a connection
between Videoguard 13.0 and Adobe Flash. I checked and
Adobe Flash ceased to operate today.

My question is: Is Directv going to solve the problem anytime
in the near future?

Thanks for reaching out, @b596704. We'd be glad to discuss this Flash concern with you.

We don't have any information about a proactive change to the player, but we we are currently in the process of updating it.

Let us know if you have anymore questions!

Figured out my problem direct tv was on wireless and computer was on ethernet cable. Now they are both on ethernet cable and work fine. So just a heads up!! I have not tried it with both on wireless but i would think that would work as well.

I made sure that my laptop was not on wireless but still having the same issue with Directv , Videoguard 13.0 exe.  Tech on the phone for AT&T/Directv did not know how to solve this issue and he said for me to wait 24 to 48 hours ;which is not going to solve anything if Adobe is no longer supporting Adobeflash.

First, hen are the Software Engineers going to jump on fixing this issue with Videoguard 13.0 exe?

My second question, why were the developers that implemented Videoguard 13.0 , not up-to-date with Adobeflash no longer being supported ?

any feedback would be great from engineering team

Only other thing I can think of is if you have a router wired or wireless between the modem and your laptop maybe that could be a problem. Both direct tv and my computer are plugged into the modem

Ya the Tech service is sub par at best:(

nope; the laptop is directly  hardwired and I am able to use Youtube and Netflix no issue with downloading either. Directv slowly started to not want to start little by little. I notice this issue even at another location. And since yesterday DTV app does not work; it just keeping asking to download Directv app over and over again.

Having the 85% problem myself. I've always had issues with the player. I get it going then it's messed up again. It's a service we pay for so I don't understand why Directv hasn't fixed this issue by now. Seems like we are just hassling them from the answers I see. As a service we pay for I'm hoping they begin to take it a little more seriously. I miss my TV on the laptop.

Mine turned out to be a DNS issue. Here's what fixed it for me.

Open a command prompt and type:

nslookup drmlocal.synamedia.com

It should return the following:

name: drmlocal.synamedia.com

address: 127.0.0.1

If it does not, do the following.

Note: 127.0.0.1 is the "loopback" IP address of your PC. Read up on this topic if you have any concerns.

  • Open an administrative command prompt and type:
notepad C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
  • Make a new line at the bottom of the file and type the following (there is space between 127.0.0.1 and drmlocal)

127.0.0.1 drmlocal.synamedia.com

  • Save the file and close notepad.
  • Close any open browser windows.
  • Relaunch your browser and try streaming DirecTV content again.

The required software (DirecTV Player / Synamedia / Cisco Video Guard) "listens" for connections to drmlocal.synamedia.com. If DNS is not pointed at the correct location, your browser cannot communicate with the software on your computer.

Its a shame that DirecTV support can't provide this basic troubleshooting information to its customers. I suspect its a fairly widespread issue considering all the similar online posts. I've been stumped by this issue for years and finally had some time to dig in and fix it today. Hope this helps others.

"It's a shame" that DIRECTV doesn't provide a hack to fix a problem you caused by your DNS configuration?

"It's a shame" that DIRECTV doesn't provide a hack to disable a call to a DRM API?  Do you think their lawyers don't have enough to do?

@JefferMC, this is incorrect.

What I've suggested is by no means a "hack". It is a fix to make the software work as intended. Quite to the contrary, this actually allows your computer to talk to the DRM API where it previously could not.

You're welcome to confirm this by performing an nslookup of drmlocal.synamedia.com against any public DNS server. You will see that it points to 127.0.0.1, which (as suggested by the very name drmlocal) points back at the user's PC (to the DRM software that's installed locally). In my case, my DNS server is not returning an IP address for that domain, so I've employed a helper on my PC to do so - again, not a hack but a fix.

Please consider removing your comment.

Okay.... so, I agree that DNS name does resolve to localhost.  So... why would you need a host file entry?
