Will a 3 LNB dish still give you HD channels?

I have a 3 LNB dish and I was getting HD channels, but now am not. Anyone have any ideas if something changed with using a 3 LNB dish?

Thank you

There are two types of "3-LNB" dishes .... the old "Phase III Dish" that receives the 101, 110 and 119º satellites, and the newer Slimline 3-LNB dish that receives the 99, 101 and 103º satellites.  The 99 and 103º satellites beam the HD channels.  Which dish do you have?

Also, What model Receiver do you have?  Look for the label on the rear panel or behind the front panel access card door.

We have the Phase III Dish. Were the HD channels moved to the 99 & 103° satellites? Because we could get all the HD channels until just recently. I don't have access to the receiver right now to tell you what model it is.

Thank you

a while back (2 years, if not more), DirecTV moved all of the HD channels to the 99 and 103.  and only the MPEG4  receivers H2X and HR2X and above are able to pick up these satellites.

And, prior to the move there were only a small handful of HD channels available.  Look at your dish, does it have the word "Slimline" painted on the face?  If so, it's a HD dish.  If not, it isn't and it's been a long time since you got any HD channels.

I am using a Phase III dish with a SL3 Slimline MPEG 4 HD (Sat 99, 101, 103 KaKu) LNB. My receivers are setup to use SL5 LNB.  I am receiving nearly all the HD channels I do on my home system and have little difficulty aiming the antenna once it is leveled.  This is a hybrid configuration and receiver setup that works well on my motorhome and camping trailer.  I have an antenna mounted to the ladder of each of my RV's such that when I level the RV it also levels the antenna.  I have set the elevation and tilt for the area where I I use the RV's most often so when I get to a site all I have to do is turn the antenna for the proper azimuth.  By mounting the antenna at the top of the ladder you can get a full 360 degree swing but you have to climb the ladder to do it.  You can eliminate the climb by mounting the antenna low on the ladder but then must always park so the rear of the RV is generally pointed south allowing for enough swing to see the satellites.

That doesn't make sense. The old Phase III geometry is different than the Slimline dish geometry.  The Phase III is optimized to receive 101, 110 and 119ºW satellites, not the 99, 101 and 103ºW satellites needed for HD channels. And the mounting hardware is different.  Can it be jury-rigged?  Sure. But why bother?
