Wireless installation for the very non-technical
I would like to connect my computer to my DVR so I can use Cimemaplus. I have read the forums but as most seem to be written for those who know what things with a bunch of initials mean I'm lost. I am not up to date on current technology.
I have a Windows Vista operating system. I understand that I need an ISP with at least 7 or 8 Mbps, but don't know how to find out what I have. So, I'll need help finding that out. If I have a slower ISP, say 6 Mbps, what should I expect in download time?
I understand that I may need some programs in my computer to make this all work, but don't' know what I need or how to find out if I have them, so I'll need help determining if I have the necessary software.
My computer is several rooms away from my HDdvr, so a hardwire connection is not feasible. I can't find anywhere on the HDDVR what brand I'm using but I have two DVR boxes in two other rooms and they are linked so they can each record and watch what is on the other box. There is a small box attached by an Ethernet chord to the top Ethernet connection on the back of one the DVR in the room where I watch movies. It has "Connect Home Adapter, Deca 1MR0-01" written on it. Is everything I need now plugged into the back of my DRV?
My computer puts out WIFI via a Westell VersaLink Model 327w. Is a WIFI signal so poor and slow that it is not a good way to use Cinemaplus? If so, what is a better alternative?
If WIFI will work, what do I need to do to make it work?
Without using initials, and staying away from generic product names as much as possible, can you help me to get my Cinemaplus up and running? I would like to make it as fast as possible and don't mink buying new equipment, but have no idea what to buy, where to get it, or what I should expect to pay.
Thanks,
Frank
