Wireless was working fine until I setup DIRECTV Cinema....
A few days ago I checked my wireless connection using speedtest.net. I was getting around 4mbs download speeds. I set up DIRECTV Cinema yesterday, didn't really use the internet on a computer afterwards, but today my internet is really slow. I tested the speed today and it's around 0.11mbs. I'm set up with DSL at a 5mbs plan, and have my HDDVR receiver hooked up to a Linksys wireless router using one ethernet cable. A weird thing though is I used the network settings test on my PS3 (which is also connected to the same router) and it's giving me 4mbs download speeds. So I'm just wondering if the DIRECTV Cinema is messing with my wireless speed. When I set it up yesterday it told me that it may take up to 24 hours to do something.... Could it still be setting up and causing my wireless internet to be slow? Also, I'm not downloading anything on my receiver. Sorry if this has been asked before, but I honestly can't stand searching for it with such a slow connection. Thanks for any help.

The system does download data during the first 24 hours, but I wouldn't think it would be so noticeable. Sometimes you get a flaky connection to the Directv server and the instructions below will give you a fresh configuration. You do understand that DSL can slow considerably if your neighbors also have DSL and are using the service heavily although the slow down you quote is pretty extreme.
Connect the Ethernet cable to the top port of the DVR and an open port on the router. Check that the router has DHCP enabled (essential). Do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR. When it's booted up, do thus: Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> restore defaults. At this point stop and go to your router and disconnect AC power for a minute and plug it back in. When all the lights settle down, go back to the DVR and run the "connect now" command. You should get a "connected to Internet" message. Allow 24 hours for the system to download then try downloading a concert from channel 1239 as a test.

Thanks for the reply dcd. I actually disconnected my DVR from my wireless router and my wireless speeds slowly started getting faster. Right now I'm back up at 4.34mbs. I'm about to hook up the DVR again to see if it goes back down. If it does I'll try out the instructions you gave me. I want the red button reset as a last resort so I don't loose all the stuff I have recorded on it.

the red button reset won't cause any harm to the shows that are recorded. doing a red button reset, is like re-starting a computer. it gives the HDDVR a fresh start.

We would never recommend a procedure that would wipe out your recordings except as a last resort and with fair warning.

Thanks again for the help. I followed the instructions and it seems to have somewhat worked. When testing my wireless speeds with speediest.net I'm getting around 0.6mbps. It is still really slow, but faster than the 0.1 that I was getting before. When I either disconnect my DIRECTV or hook up my computer via ethernet cable, my speeds go back up to over 4mbps. Not sure why it's so slow, but I'm hoping within the next day it will be faster. Do you think it could be my router? It's a few years old.... Oh, and I'm not sure if this makes any difference, but my upload speeds seem to stay consistent no matter what the circumstance is.
Edit: By the way, it's a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router. 2.4GHZ with SpeedBooster.

The suggestion I made in post #2 is more valid now than it was when I posted it. Quite often it takes some overt act to correct these issues. It appears to me that other than connecting and disconnecting all you've done thus far is hope the connection gets better. I cannot guarantee it will fix your issue, but electronics seldom get better by themselves.

mmeansm,
Don't want to discourage you, but 4Mbps is border line download speed for downloads to work reliably at all. It really take 6-10Mbps to ever approach "real-time" downloads(1 hour to download 1 hour of HD content, with the ability to begin watching after 5-10 mins). When I fiste networked my HD DVR I had 1.5Mbps DSL Internet and On Demand was basically useless. I upgraded to a 3.0Mbps service and I could use it, but it took approx. 4-8 hours to download a 2 hour HD movie(could not begin watching for 30 mins to an hour) so I had to "plan ahead". I finally upgraded to a 15Mbps DSL service and now it works as expected. You may eventually have to consider an uprade in your ISP speed if available.
