You Tube abd Media Share

Hey Folks-

Thanks for taking the time to look at this thread- I have 2 questions....

First, since my old HD  DVR was running slow, I called DTV and they sent me a new one- didn't really change much but I have the latest HD DVR that they have.  It is also connected to the internet via an ethernet cord- not wireless

When I installed it (and I remember this coming up on my old receiver as well) I got a message about the ability to view YouTube videos simply by pressing menu and then Smart Search- I've called technical support and they have been no luck- but when I go to smart search and type something in, I never get anything about the ability to view something on YouTube- someone posted that you can actually view the videos posted in your You Tube channel- that would be awesome.....if it would work- any suggestions?

The other, is I do have a ton of media stored on an external networked drive- I don't keep anything on my computer for fear of it crashing and losing the data- plus putting them on a shared drive allows me to access them from any computer.   I would love to be able to access those media files from my DTV receiver- when I press Menu, the picture, videos and more option is not there  Also, the receiver and the external networked drive are on the same network and plugged into the same router if that helps-

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated-

Thanks

1.  Press and hold the info button, then select more system info.  Scroll down and confirm that Internet shows as connected.  If so, go to Menu -> smart search -> search "florida".  When the list completes, scroll to the last option, it should be YouTube for Florida.  You can search for other things of course.

2.  You need to configure your computer and Windows Media Player for sharing (assuming you're running Windows).  Once you do, disable the firewall temporarily and do a red button reset on the DVR.  When you press menu, the Music etc option should appear.  Windows Media Player does not access auxiliary drives very well, but a 3rd part software TVersity does it nicely (under the Library tab).  The current version doesn't work properly so I run version 1_7_4_1 (you can download from the link) and when offered an update simply press okay.

Thanks for your response!

1- Go figure.....it was a parental control issue....web content was set to be blocked- as soon as I unblocked it worked- so cool!!!   Are you familiar with how I would view videos on my YouTube channel??  Right now they are marked as private and I know I would need to change that...would it be as simple as making those videos public and then searching on the name of the video?  Is the YouTube search on the DTV receiver as good as searching on the web?  If I could view the videos on my channel I'll be stoked!!!!!

2- I'll work on this....since I have a PS3 now that has the same functionality......but this sounds cool as well.  Thanks for the feedback....I'll post back here if I have issues....

Thanks again

OK, I have TVersity installed and the music videos and more now shows up on my tv......just can't seem to figure out how to point TVeristy to my Networked drive to be able to view the media....

Also...it looks like I can add my youtube channel so that shows up as well....can't seem to figure that out either....

Thanks!

if you go to the library screen on TVersity, you can add folders. Simply do an add operation and when the folder navigation window opens, navigate to your networked drive and select the folder(s) you want added.

Some of the functions you see, and YouTube may be one, are restricted to the paid for version of TVersity. Personally I've never tried the paid version, but due to the fact that the newest free version doesn't work then one might want to be leery of paying for a version that may not work as well.

Fragile is spot on with the Library tab suggestion. After you set that up, you can hit the "refresh" button at the top of the page then when you access TVersity on your TV, choose the folder option and then you can follow the folder tree to your files.

sobo1,

And my experience with TVersity is that any time you "add media files to your PC" you need to start the TVersity application and do the library refresh as mentioned by user dcd for the library that was updated(videos, music or pictures) before they will show up on your DVR's Media Share under TVersity.
