4K Requirements:

HR54 Genie on non 4K tv (Can connect to a 4K tv, but will not provide the 4K feed to it).

C61K Mini Genie Client (wired only at this time) on 4K tv.

Remember Client has no tuner of its own, uses 1 from the Genie.

4K tv must support HDCP 2.2, HDMI 2.0, and 60 FPS

Directv Installation, 4K tv must be there

Package Select or above as of 12/15/2016 (used to be only Ultimate or Premier). So only the Family package will not get 4K service at all.

At this time there are only a few channels in 4K (plus some PPVs)

Even if you have multiple C61K or RVU clients, only one tv can be using a 4K channel at a time.

@TNCindi

You need 4K equipment. The message for "this location" normally refers to that TV (each is a location on your setup).

What are the models of each of your boxes?

And DirecTV is for the entire country. The only things that are specific to where you live are the local channels and regional sport networks that are authorized for you.

As long as you have the C61K receiver or the Gemini receiver, you should be able to watch the ~5 4K live channels, 4K on-demand, and 4K PPV. This also requires that you plug into a 4K-capable HDMI port on your 4K TV with the C61K/Gemini receiver.

I get this comment when I go to the 4K channels:

we are sorry but 4K is not compatible on this location. Would you like to search for this title in a different resolution?

I’m not sure what the problem is.

Do you have a HR54 Genie or HS17 Genie2 and a C61K or C71KW connected to the TV?

I have an HR54-700 receiver and a Samsung 4K QLED tv. I’m beginning to think I need another HDMI cable even tho I’m using the one that came with the TV.

The HR54 doesn't provide 4K. The requirements updated when it was too far into production. With a 4K setup, the HR54 doesn't go on the 4K TV itself. Is that your only box?

You need a C61K or C71KW on all 4K TVs the HR54 can't output 4K.

I’m going to assume the tv is ok.

Where does the 4K feed come from? The receiver? Do I need to get a new one?

I only want to get 4K on the new tv. The old tv is going downstairs and won’t be used much.

Thank you for all of your information! You have been a great help.

The 4K feeds come from the sats, the HR54 sends it to the C61K or C71KW mini to send to the 4K TV.  You have to have a C61K or C71KW connected to a 4K TV.

So I have a receiver and then a box? That’s just for 4K? If I don’t use 4K then I just need the HR54?  And the C61K can go on the tv downstairs (the non 4k tv).

The HR54 should go on the non 4K TV that is going downstairs and the C61K is connected to the 4K TV.   The HR54 could be powering the SWM LNB on the dish arm so whatever coax connected to it has to be connected to the red power pass through port on the SWM splitter.
