85% streaming issue on Directv

I have been having the 85% issue with my directv streaming on every device, but I finally solved it. Turn off your VPN. It works every time now….

Unless you are trying to hide something (like using someone else’s credentials you got off a site) or you live outside the USA and are trying to stream ‘illegally’, there’s no reason to use a VPN. That will most certainly affect your service.

You were being provided important info. The streaming service does not work well with VPNs as it must verify correctly where you are at. Many use a VPN to try and stream a service to where it is illegal or against the Terms of Service, often when out of country as the service is only licensed within the United States.

It wasn't to be negative but simply on why not to use a VPN with it and why it often would not work with one.

What was said does not make any sense. With the von on, you cannot stream, with it off you can, isn’t that the point? Thank for the warm welcome.

So? Look I have it on all the time. At home or on the moon. I had the 85% problem and went online to find out why and there was nowhere did anyone mention a vpn. I was trying to stream a program  that I had missed and could not. A thought popped up and said try turning off the vpv and vuala it worked. That is the complete story. So, again, thanks for the warm welcome.

I'll try to clear it up.

VPN on: Masks/Fakes where you are at. Some people try to use a VPN for use out of the country. DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM are only licensed for use in the United States.

VPN off: Verifies you are in the United States. Also local channels and Regional rules for sports are affected by where you are at as they are for a specific area. Some might allow out-of-area streaming, but still only for within the United States.

How the VPN does its task causes problems for streaming TV as it does not correctly communicate with it. That is why you have it off for watching TV. You may have other reasons to use a VPN, but that doesn't change the fact that it is an issue for the TV service itself.

Glad it was just the simple answer of turning off your VPN to use the TV service. The rest of the info was more of an explanation into the situation as well as to help others who might come across the thread. Not negativity, just facts of the situation were given.

A little context. 99% of the time I watch Directv on the satelite, i really don’t like to stream, nor do I like being called a criminal so that is that. Maybe people should get more info before beginning the attack. Try it, it feels good.

It’s the streaming that comes with my satellite subscription.

Just one more comment, there definitely was negativity in the first few posts. There was no attempt to explain anything just accuse me of being a crook. I’m a retired firefighter and can take all of it. Read the first three posts after my post, doesn’t sound all that helpful, just accusatory. Thanks to those that actually gave helpful info, it is much appreciated. I am a moderator on a Dodge Cummins web site, so I know the score… Mark

If my posts came out like that I’d like to apologize as well. All I was stating is the reasons why one would want to use a VPN, I wasn’t trying to directly demonstrate any of those descriptions as YOU. If that’s how it sounded, sorry. Anyway, at the end of the day, you did learn that VPNs don’t work well with DIRECTV. That will certainly help someone in the future I’m sure who finds your post and has a similar issue.

No problems here, I appreciate it. I have had Directv satellite service for many years and rarely use the streaming service. Sometimes I forget to record something and it is very convenient to watch it on the app. All is good.
