ATT TV / Directv

I can't seem to get a straight answer from ATT help on my service.  I have DIRECTV Satellite service at my home and 3 years ago I also added Directv NOW or ATT TV as its called now, so I could have service at an apartment I was using in another city where I couldn't have a dish.  The DTV Now service was offered for $25 as part of my ATT wireless unlimited plan and included HBO/MAX.  It was a great solution for the apartment.  Then it increased to $35/mo and I kept it.  Now I'm retired and no longer have the apartment and the ATT TV has just increased to $45/mo.  We rarely use it anymore but it is handy when we go camping in our RV and can use the ATT TV app on our phones and cast to the RV TV and get channels.

However it now seems you can use a Directv app to stream your Directv channels so if that is true then am I just wasting money now on the ATT TV service?  Seems like it to me but maybe I'm missing something.  I've asked the ATT promotions departments and they just tell me I'm already getting the bundle promotions rates.

If I cancel the ATT TV service will I still get the DirectV app service?  Confusing as heck and can't get a straight answer from anyone.  Help.

Yes there are many Directv channels you can stream via the Directv app, but not all of them. That capability has existed for many years. You get it now regardless of whether you keep ATT TV or not. However, the Directv app is only available on mobile devices meaning smartphones or tablets, it is not available on smart tv’s or streaming devices. In other words, you can only stream on the Directv app on a smartphone or tablet, not on a tv. However, there are many channels you can still stream using the app for that channel and your Directv credentials. Hope that’s a straight enough answer. Hard to believe no one from Directv could tell you that.

@Radioman10

You have been able to stream content via the DirecTV app for years before the existence of AT&T TV NOW (formally DIRECTV NOW). However, not all channels will have streaming content through it.

Some channels have their own individual app which you may use, authorized by your current TV provider.

DirecTV is a satellite TV provider, not built for dedicated streaming. Some content may be available through the DirecTV app or individual channel apps, but that is limited content. Also the DirecTV app is not for viewing on TV, but a mobile device (smart phone or tablet). If you want full dedicated streaming on a TV then you will need a streaming provider.

AT&T TV and the DirecTV app don't affect each other as those are different services.

@Juniper the only catch in this situation is that you are unable to cast ANYTHING with the DIRECTV app.

Hence why I said "Also the DirecTV app is not for viewing on TV, but a mobile device (smart phone or tablet). If you want full dedicated streaming on a TV then you will need a streaming provider."

With DirecTV you pay for each TV on the service. So they will not allow you to get a free TV on the service. It is built for by satellite, not streaming.

thanks for the responses.  I talked with DTV and didn't get much help, they said I can choose another plan that could lower my cost.  I'm leaning towards canceling DTV completely and just going with the ATT TV.

The only way to reduce the bill is to lower the channel package or remove TVs

You cannot return equipment that was deactivated 4 years ago. Once sent to collections it is too late as DirecTV has written off the balance. Your option is to settle with collection agency and recycle boxes.

If boxes had been deactivated within the last couple months, then here is the correct return process. They never give you an address to pay for your own return shipping.

How To Return The Equipment

Go to a FedEx or UPS location with your account #. No need to bring a box or label, the equipment will be boxed up & shipped out at no charge. The process takes less than 5 minutes.

Also this thread has nothing to do with returning equipment but questions on streaming via the DirecTV app and the new AT&T TV service. If you have other questions, best to start your own thread.
